It's a love hate relationship. Importing shit was fucking hard in the 90s.

The fact that it was such a clusterfuck system but still had quality games is a testament to Sega's tenacity. It could've easily been as bad as n64.

Saturn and ShovelwareStation at least had games.

N64 was too little, too late. By the time it came out people were already talking about PS2 and the Saturn successor. And only Nintendo fanboys really bought into the thing, as evidenced by it only selling well in America, land of the shit taste.

Also, I think all 3 consoles have games. Sure, PS got the most, but Saturn has a lot of great games (often better ports than on PS) and N64 has quite a bunch of exclusives that still don't emulate well.

PSX2 rumours first started coming out in 1998 around the time of the Dreamcast announcement. I remember this was the first mockup for it.

They also erroneously used the Sega Pluto pictures for some other machines prototype, not sure if it was Black Belt or Katana or perhaps even called a PSX2 concept. Of course, back then we didn't knew of the Pluto.

all background layers (including the sprite layer) support transparent blending
sprites support 50% and shadow transparency between each other (unfortunately, this doesn't affect backgrounds because they aren't drawn to the framebuffer)
burning rangers renders the screen twice and adds the transparent bits on top as a background layer, which is a neat trick, if fairly high overhead and still somewhat limited
