Pickup thread!

What did you get this past weekend? Yardsale? Thrift store? Game shop? Online?

Picked all this up this past weekend at Long Island Retro Gaming Expo. Spent $250. I wish I brought more cash.

Modern bandwagon collectors excluded, I'd wager that the average veteran collector has been emulating games (or been aware and capable of emulation) since before the average "just emulate breh" poster even knew what emulation was. Of course everyone can argue their opinion, but the attempt to educate collectors seem silly.

I finally saved up enough and got an Atari Flashback 2 for $20USD. The joysticks are shit and the games are too, but I heard that a cartridge port can be soldered on. After everyone in /vr/ told me to learn to solder myself, I figure with my shaky hands the world will not miss a destroyed flashback console if I were to fuck it up. I still have to get solder, a soldering iron, flux, multimeter, wire cutters, the cartridge port, drill, saw, hot glue, glue gun, and wires so it will take about a few more months before I have the money to start this project. Is there anything else that I am missing?

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. Google has Walmart having one for $11USD. That knocks out the soldering iron and desoldering pump, the remainder will just cost over time. I also forgot that the mod does require a switch too, so add that to the list of stuff I will have to get.

>>4199804
I do not want a 2600. In fact I find the games not to my liking. I got the system for the purpose of practicing soldering and desoldering because my end goal is to get my TurboDuo and TurboExpress repaired. I have said it would be cheaper to have those sent off to a modder, but none of them are available or wanting to do that kind of work.

The repair thread informed me it is easy to do even with my mild condition where my hands shake. Yet, I still cannot risk destroying the TurboDuo and Express of my youth as my first attempt at capacitor replacement & RGB mod. Destroying those will be even more costly to me not just by monetary value but also the sentimental value they hold to me.

Game deals are just gone in my area. If I'm lucky, the flea market will match eBay price and I save shipping. Some of these fuckers will say to your face "it costs more because it's like instant shipping!" without a hint of shame. The chain used goods store ran out every other used game store, finally killing the other shitty used game store two months ago.

Be happy that you have anything left, because at some point you're gonna have to give up and price watch eBay like a hawk, or import everything you can stand.

Shit happens all the time. One time I found like 5 N64 games, nothing too fancy just some commons. I ask the girl how much and she proceeds to whip out her phone any look stuff up on ebay. Before she even started, I offered her $20 for the lot but she said some of these old games are worth a lot. I laughed and told her that none of those were. After she finished looking up everything and tallying it up after about 5 minutes, (I should have just said no thanks and walked off and not have wasted my time) she came up with a total of ~$24. She ended up taking my $20 offer in the end.

Bought a haul of Kirby 64, WCW/nWo Revenge, Banjo Kazooie and Perfect Dark off Amazon a couple days ago. Perfect Dark and Kirby 64 came in today, the label for Kirby 64 is fucked but whatever, I was gambling on it because it had no pics. I got fed up with game stores trying to fuck me over and thrift stores being barebones that I just decided to say fuck it and I'm buying the last few N64 games that I'd go out of my way to find. After these all that's left is like Banjo Tooie, F-Zero X and maybe Pilotwings 64 or Mario Tennis. There's some oddware I'm interested in like Starcraft 64 but I'm not paying $50 for that bullshit when I can get the old PC version for free just so I can show my friends how fucking cool I am. Once this shit is done I'll consider game collecting a done deal, shit is way too fucking hard now and I'd rather not have my goddamn life revolve around a hobby.

My copy of Banjo Kazooie is shipping from goddamn Venezuela so fingers crossed. I don't see any reason as to why they'd bootleg that game though, the manufacturing costs of a repro cart are like $20 so it's about the same value as a real cart so why bother?

There are no real good games anymore for a fair price in my area, so I have to start trying games out of my comfort zone. I haven't played a flight sim game since the old Wing Commander and X-WIng/Tie Fighter days, so $9 isn't too bad. Even more rare in my area are Genesis games with their box and manual, and I heard the music is pretty good, so I'll give it a try.

Funny story about those. I asked the seller if he had any xbox games. He said he has a store and gave me his card. Then I recognized him as the reseller I've been competing with on facebook groups for buying old games.

Couple days ago I decided to make a purchase of a magazine because I had to be at a place which restricts technology in fear of boredom. It is fascinating reading about all the games I am missing out on. My first magazine that's not the free one from Walmart GameCenter.

I decided to splurge and treat myself a bit and spent more than I would prefer at my local Funco Pop! store. While not /vr/ they are /vr/ themed. Resident Evil 2 prepares me well for next month, even though I played through the Japanese version long ago on the original Playstation. I don't think I played this version of KOF.

Yeah, I knew all about its stylistic cel shading earlier than Jet Set Radio and its provocative themes, but not much else. It looks like it takes the controls of Alone in the Dark/Resident Evil/Silent Hill/Parasite Eve but spins it in a non-horror narrative but rather a cyberpunk spy story. I guess with the Fear Effect games, like those horror games, rely more on atmosphere and mood than fun. So I hope the story is good. Sadly, the last few times I saw it at my local Funko Pop! store, they had the first for about $22 and the sequel at $33. Not certain they would be worth it for me at those prices.

>>4234680
Yeah, I saw a trailer for 7, and was pretty hyped, but I do not have any modern device to play 7 but it would be nice to jump in. I also saw my local Funko Pop! had "Air Combat" for the original Playstation, would that be a better place to start for the lore?
