So for Ecco, which version is THE Ecco experience? CD or Mega Drive/Genesis?

Genesis, you fool!

Call me crazy but I say Genesis for Ecco. It has the same thing that bugged me about Earth Worm Jim for the Sega CD. Updated soundtrack, but it pushes the Genesis to the limit. As for ports better on the Sega CD:

>Road Rash
>Eternal Champions
>Terminator
>Mickey Mania

Do as Dr. John Lily did in the 70s. Take a shitload of acid and ketamine and hang out with dolphins at your local aquarium.

Neither. You get the fan enhanced PC version:

Sega CD has more levels and dolphins FMVs.

I like the extra content of the CD version, and both soundtracks are good. Also the sound effects are a bit crisper on CD.

So...CD.

I like the Genesis version for it's music and the CD version for it's added levels. My favorite by quite a wide margin though is the 3D port by M2 on the 3DS which makes the game shine in a whole new light.

The CD version has great music, but it lacks personality.
cart version really nails the feeling of each level.(cold, loneliness, danger, jurassic, alien)

CD music is all mellow stuff without any real link to the levels.

HUGE Sega CD fan here. I soaked unbelievable hours into Eternal Champions. New every move.

I have always played the CD version. Have never even tried the Genesis one.

I've never given ecco a chance besides booting it up and getting bored after a while.

What type of game is it? I understand it's not a regular platformer of the time.

Does the 3DS port have the cool CRT curvature effect that SOR2 has? Legitimately one of the best uses of 3D I've seen on the system.

It's not any sort of platformer, it's an adventure game.

Yup it does! They only did it for a few titles but it's a sweet effect.

More of a puzzle game than anything, its just figuring out how to get to the end of the levels. Tides of time is a little easier, i still have yet to beat welcome to the machine from the first game.

Yes. This is what I thoight too. I played the cd thinking it'd be the bee knees, but something was just off.
The music was good, but didn't suit the atmosphere.
Good work anon, been trying to put my finger on that for a while.

I prefer CD for original but cartridge for Tides of Time
