so if you get the standalone it will work as an amiga 1200 with all the acceleration and stuff? Just need to put in an sdcard or something?

would be cool if it had VGA or at least PCI/AGP port for some radeon 92xx or voodoo 4500

there are cheaper FPGA boards if you only want to play games

If you must ask a question like that, it probably isn't for you. It's not as simple to use and set up as an emulator.

>> No.4170251

or you could just run emulation... for free

>> No.4170254

Amiga is a general purpose computer, this is meant to be a modern CPU replacement.

>>4170251
For /vr/ needs, yes, most people won't care about the little input lag and minor accuracy differences what you have with an emulator over real hardware / FPGA.
This is for more higher end needs.

>> No.4170260

>>4170254
What higher end needs? If you want a functional OS where you could actually do stuff then there's AROS. This board is purely for games, let's not kid ourselves.

>If you want a functional OS where you could actually do stuff then there's AROS.
AROS is a joke compared to the classic AmigaOS, same with MorphOS and AmigaOS 4

>This board is purely for games, let's not kid ourselves.
I didn't start the thread, also don't kid yourself anon, this board is anything but games these days

what's the problem with people having a platform as a hobby?

>> No.4170272

I meant the fpga board is for games, not 4chan board. 4chan is for anime.

How is AROS a joke? You can't do shit on workbench anymore, not even shitpost.

Please explain the issues you have with AROS.

>I meant the fpga board is for games
You don't need this to play Amiga games, a stock Amiga 1200 with an FastRAM upgrade will play almost all /vr/ Amiga games. Except the very late 90's games like Doom and Quake.

>You can't do shit on workbench anymore, not even shitpost.
What do you think this FPGA board is for then? It's literary meant as a CPU upgrade for an Amiga to update it a little. It has modern instructions making porting things like FireFox much easier.

>How is AROS a joke?
>Please explain the issues you have with AROS.
It has bad compatibility. Both for running native 68k code via emulation and recompiled original code that uses Amiga APIs.

you sure about that? even an accelerator from '96 with an '060 will let you shitpost in multiple threads at a time

>4chan is for anime
no /a/ is for anime
/vr/ is for retro games

just that nobody is stopping you from using anime reaction pictures, you can't start a thread about an anime in /vr/ that has nothing to do with retro games, that would be against the rules

not really, resolution, overscan and refresh rate all still work the same way
if you use it with a real amiga, you don't have to use the HDMI port, just use a normal scandoubler

>> No.4170368

>>4170323
well, I would like to use something to syncdouble (not scandouble) but I don't know yet if something like >>4170207 posted will work

>> No.4170374

>>4170368
Amiga scandoublers also syncdouble. Else you won't be able to use 31kHz VGA monitors with them. They only scandouble/flickerfix when you use interlaced resolutions.

The HDMI to VGA converter will work for the HDMI out of the Vampire board. It has nothing to do with scan or sync doubleing.

If you use it with a real Amiga you don't have to use the HDMI out of the Vampire, but the normal Amigas chipset video out with a scandoubler or a separate Zorro or PCI RTG card.

so how much hundreds of dollars will they ask amigafags now for yet another magical board for reliving their childhood?

>> No.4170802

>>4170786
that one's 300€ I think but it's pretty much the best thing
it isn't really about reliving childhood, like someone already said, it's just having a platform as a hobby, people who buy this already have shitloads of other amigas and expansions
