>> No.4168061

The only true answer is Xbox, they were the only console that didn't do anything to directly ruin Sega. Also all the sweet Dreamcast games that got moved onto the Xbox from 2001-2004. Sega's strategy was to make their games exclusive to consoles that matched the target demographic, but their refusal to do anything with Sony until Sonic Heroes made the Xbox a go-to. Besides Billy Hatcher and PSO the GCN got a bunch of Sonic ports and that's it, Xbox got Shenmue, Panzer Dragoon, Crazy Taxi, OutRun, JSR, Sega Sports etc etc.
GameCube is acceptable because of Sega's exclusives which were all top tier, and because Nintendo had also been raped by Sony by 2001 and was no longer the bitter rival it was in the SNES era.
If you went to PS2 you were a traitorous faggot. I was a Nintendo kid but I hated Sony for making Nintendo seem shitty and had a soft spot for Sega after seeing them turn to literal shit, I didn't get a PS2 until the Slim was insanely cheap in 2006 and even then it was only for MGS3.

Sega was always my favorite company. In their wake, my new favorite eventually became Microsoft. That wasn't until about half way through the 360's life though.

I like Nintendo as a company but don't care for most of their 1st party games.

I don't particularly like Sony as a company and don't care for most of their first party games.

I buy any console that has at least 5 exclusives I really want to play though. There's no company I flat out hate or won't support.

The mainstream perception of the Hueg was an FPS console because of Halo, and because PC developers could make games on it and because of the Xbox Live factor. But dig deeper into its library and you'll find all sorts of experimental, cutting edge games that didn't happen on other systems.
Dreamcast and Xbox both had huge amounts of very well made PC ports, like Doom3, Half-Life 2, Morrowind.
There were also lots of strange Japanese games, giant mechas, and anime tits.
And the Xbox even got RPGs that were totally unlike anything else.

In my youth I generally always had whatever the newest console was. Admittedly, I did get a super Nintendo rather late, but whatever.
Thing is when I wanted a Saturn I could never find one in local shops. Not many games either. It was like the local market had just abandoned Sega by that point. I mean,I never even saw a Sega CD or 32x in person until recently.

Dreamcast was such a huge ting when it launched that the local mall actually stayed open over night so retards could wait in line for it's official release, but all that excitement quickly died down.
I got a Dreamcast for Xmas that year, got like 10 games with it and loved it but by the time the ps2 was widely available, DC was just dead and gone.

I guess what I mean is that I always gave Sega a chance, and even enjoyed the genesis and DC am LOT, but they never really delivered. From my perspective, anyway.

I'm glad someone else here finally noticed this. Yes, there were ton's of FPS games, but there were also TONS of other kinds of games. People here often just look at the top 10 best sellers and ignore everything else.

There were actually so many non-FPS games that Microsoft made a split in the Platinum Hits line, all the E-rated titles were Platinum *Family* Hits. The Xbox launched with a huge variety, trying to get anyone and everyone they could sell a console to installed. In it's first calender year, it got platformers like Blinx, SEGA Arcade games, shooters like Halo, action games like Mechwarrior and GunValkyrie, and both arcade type extreme sports and simulation sports games. By the time it died, MS had experimented with all kinds of RPGs, like Phantom Dust, and Japanese companies did things like NUDE.

PC doesn't count.

Anyways I jump ship to Xbox because it was the superior console at the time & the closest thing to an upgraded Dreamcast.

Then I bought the Xbox 360 for the sole reason that they had a Splinter Cell exclusive(Splinter Cell Conviction).

After that generation, I ended up buying the PS4. This decision was made after I had backed the Shenmue 3 kickstarter. But by then, I already owned multiple game consoles such as the Sega Genesis, Dreamcast, SNES, N64, Gamecube, PS1, PS3, Xbox & Xbox 360.

So honestly my loyalty died when I decided to buy consoles from all brands. Although I avoided the Wii & Wii U. I might end up getting the Switch, but for now I'll just wait & see what games come out for it.

Really got into the Mega Drive and Saturn, only now I am digging into the Dreamcast after finding it again. Still am a little lost on if the Master System is worth owning or not.
Lost interest in console gaming around the 7th generation, near the end of the 360's life. although Xbox had a lot of the same eccentric titles that SEGA consoles got. The Original Xbox has some great stuff but I'm not particularly attached to that brand. Jumped ship after The One and The PS4 due to their disasterous launches and consoles seem to be homogenized anyway. I'm not really too into modern gaming but PC is sufficient for everything plus it has an interesting library as it is.

Started on the Mega Drive, dad gave away our Saturn before we could use it and went from the Dreamcast to the Xbox and Gamecube, then to Wii and 360, then finally a PS3 and currently own all current gen consoles and a switch.

Mum bought the Mega Drive in 95 and then a Saturn in 96 but our dad gave it away to relatives before Christmas, we had Gameboy's to hold us over, so when the Dreamcast came out my brothers and I had a choice between the N64 or Dreamcast, we chose Dreamcast and enjoyed it until 2001 or so when my brother got an Xbox for his birthday, and we got a Gamecube for Christmas.

For some reason we never cared for Sony consoles, although I did get a PSOne sometime in 2004 with like 3 games. When Gen 7 hit we got a Wii then a 360 two years later. I eventually bought a PS3 myself in 2012 and played games I missed out on. God Hand being one of them.

This gen we just bought every console, and barely play anything besides the PS4.

Sega's different exclusives for different systems was really dumb as their fanbase didn't know where to go and they kind of splintered and no one really got their "fanbase".

Maybe if all their games had been multiplatform at the start or if they had been exclusive to one system then the fans could've moved to one system and Dreamcast era Sega could've continued instead of morphing into what it is now, but since it splintered their fanbase across three systems then there was never enough "sega fanbase" in one console to have Sega succeed as a third party publisher. I still remember how they said they wanted to be the biggest third party publisher and were aiming to shot EA down kek

So yeah what happened to sega fans?
A big part moved to the PS2 since it was the biggest of the three consoles and easily the most logical console to get in that gen.

Many moved to Gamecube since it was getting all the Sonic Team games as exclusives as well as other Sega games and Nintendo seemed like a good fit.

Many moved Xbox since it was also getting other Sega exclusives, the controller was similar and in general they seemed to be more like "sega" catering to an older audience and the "new guys" of the block.

So yeah Sega fans were split in 3. What did I do? I went to Nintendo because I was still a kid and wanted my sonic games.

Sega games were never great enough to warrant its own console, unlike say, Nintendo or Sony. Imagine if Capcom or Namco had their own consoles, they would've ended up the same as Sega did.

Sony's games aren't great enough either. Most of the acclaimed PS1 classics are third-party releases.

I went to the Xbox. it had a Jet Set Radio Future, and that was good enough for me. also Halo CE, but mostly JSRF. unfortunately, Sega are shit at keeping anything good going, and the PS2 has the most powerful library of that generation. I got a PS2 later, and have stuck with them, since.

I would like to get some of Nintendo's systems, since I miss the fun, cartoony games of my youth, but fuck, do those systems suck.

The more popular console is objectively better. If the Xbox was better it would have been the one that became the best selling console of all time, but the PS2 did.

I agree that all those fighting games kick ass but the GC Version of CVS 2 was garbage. Stick to the DC or Arcade version.

Its a great game, I enjoyed it more than CVS 1 and other SF and KOF entries. Where else can you play as Rock, Geese, Iori, Kyo, and Terry alongside Sagat, Yun, Chun Li, and M. Bison?

That was the deal I made with my folks; if I can buy the console, they would buy the games.

I started on the NES, my father sold that so he can get me a new game console. I had a choice between the Sega Genesis & a Super Nintendo. I picked the Sega Genesis mainly because of how cool it looked. By the time I got home, I started playing Sonic The Hedgehog. Made me a Sega fan ever since then.

So by the time it was 1996, I got myself a Sega Saturn, but when they discontinued games for it in 1998, I immediately got myself a Playstation. But by 1999, I got myself a Dreamcast. I was a very spoiled kid back then.

By 2001, I knew they had discontinued producing Dreamcast games. So I bought an original Xbox. Which led to me getting a Xbox 360.

By 2014 I had about 9 game consoles such as PS1, PS3, Sega Genesis, Dreamcast, SNES, N64, Gamecube, Xbox & Xbox 360.

In 2016 I bought a PS4 because of an upcoming exclusive they'll have(Shenmue 3).

Originally I was going to go PC, but I realized that if I were to try PC gaming, I have to match up with the minimum requirements needed for newer games. The parts needed to "build a PC" were way overpriced & confusing, because there's so many options on what parts to get, didn't know where to start. I'm no nerd, so I figured "fuck this shit", it was cheaper & simpler to just to get myself a new game console.
