Whats the best concept/design book you've read related to vidya? Double plus good if you can provide a link to it.

finding out that the countryside in Daggerfall was supposed to look like this and that the cities were supposed to have balconies through which you could break into the buildings.

the final game just feels rather flat in comparison.

Looking at the concept art for games without the technology to really accurately represent the initial vision before it gets scaled down is always very interesting. And there's a ton of 8 and 16-bit era games with very cool concept art and very underwhelming in-game graphics derived from them.
