Ultimas 1-7 were all incredible when they came out. Not a single CRPG since Ultima 7 has come close the immense depth of character freedom of U7. They can be really hard to get into for new players nowadays, but that doesn't mean they're bad.

I always prefered the Might and Magic series to the Ultima series.
Combat in the Ultima games is slow, boring and without strategy.

Strategy in M&M consist on pressing the quick fight button/key.

In my head cannon, I always thought Batling was granted immortality through The Guardian. I remember it took the Forge of Virtue DLC to activate the event to be able to kill Lord British, but it would still refuse to kill Batlin. I do know if I cast the Armageddon spell, even Batlin survives and confess his allegiance to The Guardian but is dejected that The Guardian wouldn't want to conquer the world now with everyone dead.

I only played the 7s and 8 (and started the Underworld games). I really loved the 7s in their day and still think it was a sort of precursor to the modern Elder Scrolls and Bethesda Fallout games. In those days, I thought it was interesting that you never got to defeat The Guardian, only prevent or stall his arrival, and that was conclusive enough; after some tome to now, I think I would prefer a more conclusive ending.

I only got 8 because I loved the 7 games so much. However, 8 is quite a departure and different from what I was used to, but I still liked it, but nowhere near as much as I did 7, but I did see 8 as sort of a forefather to Diablo which was great.

I copied 6, and I couldn't get into it back then. I think maybe the controls and/or graphics just put me off after having played the 7s.

positioning is very important in MM6 onwards. If you play well you can run circles around your enemies in the dungeons.
