- Some Fighting Game, because I'll never buy one of those again after SF2, alternately something weird I haven't seen anywhere else like Spanky's Quest. I never gave a shit about PS1 or N64, which means my rentals can be wild for they are cheap
- Some 80s or early 90s horror movie because I enjoy practical effects and imaginative concepts
- I don't know what snacks they had at Blockbuster, we had Video Kingdom where I lived, no snacks there worth getting, Reeses Pieces I guess

If it's 1996 I'm playing whatever I want out of the guts at the shop. This was before my two friends started working at Blockbuster but I might have picked up Hackers on my way back to my fat GF's apartment.

I certainly wouldn't have bought snacks there at movie theater prices when they couldn't hold me captive while I watched their movie. I probably made garlic bread. We were into that back then.

Something I actually did before. If I went back in time I would repeat.

Halo 2, Shaun of the Dead and a 5 pound bag of laffy taffy to share. Late 2004

Friend was bringing his xbox over but was too poor to buy Halo 2. So we had 8 people at my house with 2 Xboxs and played Halo 2 all night. Woke up and watched Shaun of the Dead then back to Halo 2 for another night of debauchery. We polished off 6 large pizzas, 10 wings, ten 2 liters of soda, and the bag of Laffy Taffy.

Man, Blockbuster was something. Also had a Hollywood Video in the area but I was a Blockbuster boy at heart mainly because I had like a bunch in my city so I could make use of my membership card for that free popcorn.

>there was this bitch named felicity at my local/closest blockbuster who would hold back games for her friends to come pick up every friday
>one friday there was no school so I decided to hit up blockbuster as soon as they opened up to make sure I got a copy of conker's bad fur day this time and also make use of the extra time I'd have with the game
>saw the manager opening up and luckily it wasn't her shift yet so I talk to him about one of her employees that goes by felicity
>told me I'm not the first person to complain about her and said he'd have a talk with her
>fast forward to the next friday, felicity was gone and it was only her co-worker decker working up the cashier
>asked what happened to felicity, decker told me the manager let her go after he found the stash of "missing" games in the backroom after someone told him about what felicity was up to

after that I was able to rent conker's bad fur day every weekend after that.

Megaman 8

just a sprite.

The thing is though, even though I wasent around for its height, the fun of Blockbuster for me in the early 2000's was not knowing what I was gonna get. Its how I found some crazy shit like
>The good, the Bad, and the Weird
>Anime WITH TITS
>cheap sci-fi flicks
>Cheap horror movies

You never knew what you were going to find. I mean, I didnt know Star wars Battlefront was even coming out until I got to the store, and an older friend of mine told me to try it out.

It was like a great mystery. But then I got old, and right as I started to get old enough to research movies, use the internet, keep up with releases, they disappeared.

I dunno, thanks for reading this 22 year old's blogpost. Blockbuster just gets me really nostalgic. I dont know if it was because I was a kid, but 1999-2004 were fucking magical for me, and I dont know if life will ever feel like that again.

Of course not, you were like 4-9 during that time. Everything is like that when you're that young. The world didn't get any less magical though, your perspective just changed, as it will continue to do your whole life. Exactly what I said. I just got older. I enjoy life now, girl friend, steady job, and uni life. But when I was a kid there was wonder. And now, I know at least a year in advance before any show, movie, or game comes out that might spark my interest.

I kinda wish I grew up alongside my mom. Her stories of the 80's seem like she kept that wonder well into her teens. Movie gallery was hoppin, no cell phones, biked everywhere. You could take the phone off the hook and not exist fora night. I dont know what changed, or why we dont act like that any more, but you have to admit, it hasent been like that since the early 80s.

I'm much closer in age to your mom than I am you and I can tell you that it's all still quite possible. A number of years ago I realized following too much stuff left me overhyped and burnt out by the time it came out, so now I usually pay little attention to what's up and coming and more just on what's out now. Though to be fair that would be harder if I was in my 20's/

But also, there's so much more to be inspired and awestruck by than just what the next game is going to be. We're living in an incredible age of information, anything that stikes your interest you can fall into an almost infinite rabbithole of learning about it.

I do get it, I used to feel about the 70's the way you feel about the late 90's, but message from the future holding onto what's gone mostly just holds you back. It might be something we all have to learn on our own though, I don't know.

Just don't lose hope and think that things will never be as good as they seemed like they could be when you were a kid. They'll never be the same, but that's not a bad thing. The universe is vast and more complex than you can possibly imagine. Think of it like a big game, look for what seems cool and go check it out. Trust me, there's a hell of a lot of wonder out there.

That's because the majority of them commit suicide or become normalfags by then. I don't get how you can buy into such pointless optimism but then again, by your own admission, you're a normalfag. Funny how you use that word, even though it literally means not-autistic. Just because im a normie by most measurements, doesnt mean Ive never drempt of a time were things were different. I think it's a case of "not aging well". When it came out people just played it and accepted the game as it was. But over time action rpgs developed and a more hack and slash action approach became standard. So now when people look at it, the charging system seems very slow and foreign and they don't like it.

Compound that the magic wheel system being clunky and the game can feel very dated and sub-par. It also doesn't help that the AI was bad and almost no one now plays co-op.

Movie: Independence Day, Terminator 2, or Stargate (any of these were the shit back then).

Snack: Junior Mints, or a tin of different flavored popcorns (the cheese flavored popcorn will turn up missing first).

Game: Resident Evil (because I heard it was the shit, and I saw previews of someone shooting a rocket launcher at hell hounds down a hallway of some spooky mansion)

Ironically presenting these options doesn't give me the itch to play or watch any of these. They're just so old hat that ive moved past them and noted the quirks with all of them that now make them cringey (this is just flashing back to 1996 thats all).

I would like that snack, but I dont have the option right now.

Spider-Man and Venom: Maximum Carnage for Genesis. If I rent a game my parents wouldn't let me get a movie too. Also snacks were too expensive to them. Confirmed for never being to blockbuster. You don't get to choose, it's whatever the fuck is left on the shelf. Also fuck going to blockbuster. It was a shitstain compared to local places anyway.

Oh, nice they released a bluray two years ago for it. I had an 720p version from 2011 that was absurdly hard to find because it was a rip from an on air broadcast and wasn't available in any purchasable format.

>Super Mario RPG
>Star Trek: First Contact
>Jax Cheddar Cheese Curls

This is definitely what I would have done. Although I played Mario RPG back then and hated it (didn't know what an RPG was, thought it was dumb I had to pick attacks from menus), I've now learned to love it, and I thought First Contact was awesome as a kid, but now I realize it's dumb as shit. Jax have always been the bomb, though.

I never got to rent from Blockbuster as a kid because they were the priciest store in town for rentals. Instead I got to rent from a local grocery store. Always wanted to go to Blockbuster though because I thought this machine was cool as fuck
