Am I doing something wrong here or are the fucking Cultists from Blood way too competent for the average FPS mooks? They have insane reaction times on Lightly Broiled.

General Blood thread, I guess?
I just finished playing through Episode 1 with BloodGDX and I'm already halfway through Episode 2. This game is really fucking good once it starts giving you enough ammunition to really play around. The first few levels of the first Episode you kinda have to scrounge all you can get or else you'll run out. Episode 2 is much more generous so far, even early on.

Haven't played much blood but my duke experience is similar. The pig cops are just fuckers. I think the game was just a product of being made by hardcore doomers that decided doom was too easy.

>The pig cops are just fuckers
Uh, what? Pigcops have a huge wind-up time compared to Blood cultists and you can dance around them with relative ease. They don't even do that much damage unless they surprise you at close range. In Blood they get more accurate AND fire faster AND do more damage AND take more hits as you increase the difficulty.

>>4121110
It takes a while to get the twitch rhythm right. There are also patterns you can exploit, like how they come to investigate when you pop out around a corner, and how you can reliably stun them for a couple seconds with a bullet while you move closer or shoot a different enemy. Aside from that it's reflexes, angles, covers, and being really quick/accurate with your dynamite throws. To be really good at Blood you need to be able to switch to dynamite and throw it accurately almost like you have a modern quick-grenade key.

>> No.4121352

The most common mooks in the game have hitscan weapons as strong as yours that they can fire as fast as yours can. And since they're computer controlled they react instantaneously.

There's a reason they were given bullshit traits like this, and that's because their AI limitations are laughably bad and the difficulty would be too low otherwise.

See they can fire, stand/go prone or turn one frame in their animation per AI tick but no combination of the three. With proper positioning you can exploit this to keep them in aim ticks instead of fire ticks.

Basically by jumping around like a monkey you can keep them turning to aim at you but never getting a chance to fire.

>> No.4121356

I burned through Blood and the incredible Death Wish mod over the course of a week or so, using the dosbox versions. It's a pretty tough game but more than beatable once you get the hang of it.

A little while after, BloodGDX dropped and it is just insane. Enemies are so much more accurate and deadly, and even a relatively small amount of cultists can be extremely dangerous.

The problem is BloodGDX. If you play it through dosbox, you will find a much more forgiving game.

>Enemies are so much more accurate and deadly in BloodGDX
I have not found this to be the case at all. My performance (skill-wise) in GDX is very similar to DosBox, maybe slightly worse because it's not the exactly same mouse sensitivity or whatever.

Huh, I've actually beaten the game on dosbox and am replaying it on BloodGDX. I thought that it wasn't as hard last time I played it.

>>4121352
>See they can fire, stand/go prone or turn one frame in their animation per AI tick but no combination of the three.
Does BloodGDX alter this? Does running the game at a higher FPS increase the amount/speed of AI ticks? That would explain why they're reacting so fast if that's the case. Just cranking down my FPS would probably fix it.

>Aside from that it's reflexes, angles, covers, and being really quick/accurate with your dynamite throws. To be really good at Blood you need to be able to switch to dynamite and throw it accurately almost like you have a modern quick-grenade key.
I'm getting better with 'em. I didn't remember until Dark Carnival how to toss dynamite without having it explode on contact. Tapping altfire to light then holding fire to charge the throw is an odd way to do it, but the dynamite feels so good that I can excuse quirks like that. I love the sound when a horde of enemies get caught in a single explosion.

try throwing dynamite around corners with the alt fire.

Yes they can be tough, blood aint no cake walk. Hit them first, don't be in line of sight. 1 on 1 at close range you can pitchfork them to lock them in pain.

Which is intended.
Enemies are harder to kill and there's more of them.

The last two difficulties are technically meant for co-op, but if you're crazy and extremely patient enough, you can do it on singleplayer.

It's very gimmicky compared to the superior accuracy and stunlock ability of the regular firing. It's just a single shot at the enemy nearest to your crosshair, or at least that's how I've understood it. There's a bit of delay before it actually fires, so you gotta use it for sniping or against non-hitscan enemies.

It's clever the way it teaches you the proper fighting technique with its basic enemies. To beat them you have to start fighting like a cultist but better: shoot fast and first; if in doubt, dynamite.
