Never got a dreamcast, does anyone know what the best emulator is these days? Heard good things about Demul and Redream. What's the best controller to use? DS3?

>> No.4118845

Not OP but bumping for my interest.

You can just buy a dreamcast for like $20 and play all the burned games you want

>> No.4118952

>>4118552
DCs are so cheap and pirating for it is so easy that you're gonna be better off with real hardware. DEMUL is the most accurate DC emulator but it doesn't have amazing compatibility.

>> No.4120235

Dreamcast is one of the couple of consoles where its probly easier to jus buy origonal hardware at a fairly reasonable cost and you can burn games if you're intrested. Buy games aint bad ethier becuase a good number of them are still affordable.

Are there even Dreamcast exclusives? Im sure there's still some, but haven't most games got a decent port on PC or something?

Blue Stinger
Cannon Spike
Frame Gride
L.O.L.
Illbleed
Plasma Sword (2)
Segagaga

I was going to mention Gundam: Rise from the Ashes, but its story was remade in Gundam Side Story.

You forgot Sonic Shuffle!

I wouldn't mind a just of all the still-exclusive Dreamcast games. I bet there's some shmups I'm missing out on

Tech Romancer and Rival Schools 2 come to mind

What's the typical total cost for a dreamcast with all the wires and a controller, a 4x memory card (dont care about vmu), and a pack of 99min CD-Rs?

>> No.4120276

>>4120268
The cost is more than $20 for the system alone. Depending on where you live easily can be 35+ for a fully working DC with controller.

VMUs can run around $10 for a working unit or sometimes cheaper in person, but for a 4x they can go for 20-50 depending on how the market is.

CDs? For good ones that will always work probably $10-20 for a cakebox of 100.

The biggest flaw with doing all of this is how common DC laser failure is and the effort you need to put to make sure your console doesn't burn out faster or any time soon.

Too bad there is no easy to use or worthwhile emulator.

>> No.4120301

So why is emulation for the DC and Sega systems in general total shit? Are they just that complicated to emulate? I'd really like to get into DC emulation, I don't need 100% accuracy, I just want it to work. What would be the easiest to use emulator for this?

>> No.4120302

>>4120276
are there memory cards without all the visual stuff from the VMU that are cheaper and also have the same amount of 4x memory? costs run up pretty high, im not gonna buy one til next year probably

>> No.4120309

>>4118853
That's 20$ more than emulation, minus controller and CD costs.

>> No.4121113

>>4120301
it's because no one really cares about them + the games and systems are pretty cheap or piracy is piss easy on them.

Gundam side story IS rise from the ashes.

I tried Saturn emulation a while back and just gave up. Maybe I'll try again. But why is Dreamcast emulation poopoo? And can anyone recommend an easy to use DC emulator?

Dreamcast Emulation isn't perfect on PC. Trust me, you'll want to get a Dreamcast. I have a powerful PC, but emulation is shit on Dreamcast.

No, what I mean is that there is a newer game called Gundam Side Story that remakes a bunch of side stories with its battle system. It doesn't remake the games themselves, just a few stages (like the Blue Destiny rampage or the final battle in Rise from the Ashes).

>> No.4122337

>>4122281
I tested it. It runs a few games pretty well, but it's still below SSF in most others.

>>4120301
Lack of interest. The less people interested and working on a system, the worst its emulation is. FYI, DC emulation still depended on .cdi images until a few years ago, I think Demul was the first emulator to accept .gdi images (correct me if I'm mistaken).

>> No.4122349

>>4122335
You mean Gundam SIDE STORIES, which is a PS3 game. "Side Story" can be any of the Gaiden games (Blue Destiny, Rise from the Ashes).

Gundam Side Stories remakes the most important stages from:
- Blue Destiny (Saturn)
- Zeonic Front (PS2)
- Encounters in Space (PS2) - only the original story, not the whole game
- Lost War Chronicles (PS2)
- Cross Dimension 0079 (SNES) (REALLY)

The game itself has an original story called Missing Link.

Since I bought my Dreamcast mainly for it's awesome wrestling games, many of the exclusives that were interesting for me were indeed exclusive. Games like Fire Pro Wrestling D, Giant Gram 2, Giant Gram 2000 (OK the last two were Arcade-Ports) and Toukon Retsuden 4.

But every single one of the western wrestling games on the DC were shit and/or weren't exclusive at all (garbage like WWF Royal Rumble or the Acclaim WWF and ECW games)

>> No.4122457

Many shmups dont emulate well and honesty that grinds my gears.
If I had the money I would get the real deal and just pirate the shit out of everything.

Rise From The Ashes is an entire game, while the game you're thinking of only takes a few levels from the DC game. Both play differently, the DC game is a tactical FPS/mecha sim and is very much worth playing.

Doubt it. I've seen it emulate at native performance on computers. Even mid-high end android devices can emulate most games.
Hell, my Oukitel K10000 Pro emulates rayman 2 flawlessly.
