It's the most solid all-around.

Has the best puzzles, but the controls are a little clumsy. A shadow would have helped a lot during the most frustrating jumping parts too.

Has the best combat and it's my personal favorite, but it feels more like a top-down beat'em up than a true Zelda-like game.

Willow is Famicom. Thing is, like the original Zelda it's a bit ancient and cryptic, so I'm not sure I can recommend it to modern players. In many ways it's a bit better than Zelda, in some ways inferior. The backgrounds looking really same-y is an issue. Akira Kitamura, of Mega Man fame is credited as "Game Designer" for it. I think it's pretty neat. Pretty much required to have a pen and paper to make maps.
