I'm considering buying one of these.

Anyone on /vr/ have one?
What do you think of it?

My main concern is durability.
I've have bad experiences with repro systems before.

Just buy a top loader or wait for the SNES Mini.

Not to derail but anyone know if the Atari flashbacks are any good? If so which version? Only review I've seen is make sure to get wired controllers

>> No.4093826

>>4093809
The wireless controllers used in Flashbacks up through 7 use infrared so you have to aim them at the console.
The Flashback 8 models coming out later this year don't use infrared. (One comes with wired controllers; the other two models come with 2.4GHz RF wireless controllers.)

But I don't want either of those things.

I want to know if the NES Classic Edition is worth getting.

>> No.4093915 [DELETED]

I found one at walmart in march, and have played it a decent amount and have no major complaints other than the cord being too short. It seems very well built and i haven't had any issues with games not working properly. If it's not too expensive I'd definitely grab one just to have one but of course you can't talk about the nes classic without mentioning the fact that the raspberry pi does everything the nes classic can do and more for less money.

>> No.4093953

If you can find one at MSRP (good luck), I'd say it's worthwhile. The cords are short, but the controller is a pretty faithful replica of the original and the system's design in terms of hardware and software is pleasant.
I wouldn't pay much more than MSRP, though, since you can get a better emulation experience through various other means.

>> No.4094049

>>4093875
It's fine at MSRP as a cute little collector's item.

At jew scalper prices, it's not even remotely worth it.

>> No.4094104

>>4093875
Fuck no. It's not worth it at any price over $100

The only people who have them are scalpers marking them up for a ridiculous amount. Let those assholes rot on their 'investments'. Just buy a raspberry pi 3 and look up videos on how to make your own mini emulator.

Agree...and I own one and love it. Not worth scalper prices unless you got cash to burn.
Made the better half pre order it when it was announced and luckily reminded her to pre order it a week later. Had no idea it was going to be so scarce though.

Had the neighbours we met when we moved here around a short while ago and it turned out they both had a fucking blast playing on it, we took turns just like back when we were all kids (we are aged in our 30's to early 40's).

Look here it is, sitting unused 99.9% of the time while there are others who would pay 4x the retail price (apparently) to own one.

Also gaze judgingly upon my random shit including cheap knockoff SNES USB game pads I force others to use when they visit and we play random indie steam games.

>> No.4096305

Ok I own one and thoroughly enjoy it. However, there's something you should be aware of.
The emulation isn't entirely accurate. The original NES had strange pixels, in that they were slightly wider than they were tall.
The NES Classic has three output modes: 4:3, CRT, and Pixel-Perfect. 4:3 is the most accurate, yet the pixels are uneven, leading to a "shimmering" effect in moving textures. CRT is 4:3 but with a filter over it, which I'd say looks pretty good. Finally, Pixel Perfect mode has the pixels be perfect squares, which eliminates the shimmering, but makes the screen look squished. Some roms have also been modified slightly to prevent epilepsy, which doesn't bother me, but might turn ppl off.

Finally, there's one last thing which nobody is talking about for some reason, which is the sound. I don't know why, but some of the sound effects have been altered slightly (especially noticeable in MM2) and it just sounds off. They aren't like this in the VC, so at least for Mega Man, I play it on the Wii U and turn the brightness up.

If this doesn't bother you, than pick it up if it's less than $100. It's small and can run off a USB port, and I really like the controller. Too bad they didn't reproduce it early this year, but oh well.

I'm still planning to get a front loader and an AV Famicom modded for RGB tho

>> No.4096648

We have had a few and played with them
Unless you're planning on adding games I don't recommend it at the scalper price

Just get the original system and an everdrive n8

>>4093809
They're pretty bad
But still fun to collect if you can find them for cheap , it's not like a real Atari , it's a plug-&-play
Get a 7800 instead as they're dirt cheap

I'm stunned vr of all places would ever even consider endorsing any of these pieces of shit, the sne and snes minis are emulation boxes with inaccurate sound and input lag. Either just download an emulator or buy a proper nes and the flash cart powrpack cartridge then you can play ever game ever released on it for free legitimately.

Top kek kid. I know what you're trying to say but scalping is actually a thing. Many places actually have laws against it in various forms. For example ticket and certain type of investment scalping.
