What should I use as my retro gaming emulation machine - a Raspberry Pi, Nintendo Wii, or my Macbook laptop?

Wii is your best shot applefag but you wont be able to run 3d games.

All of those are terrible choices if you want N64 emulation. Wii would probably be the best choice only for VC n64 games.

For everything else that's "retro", it doesn't really matter between Wii/Pi/Macbook. I prefer a modded wii with gamecube ports just to have access to Nintendont to play gamecube iso's and have a dedicated device always connected to a TV.

>you wont be able to run 3d games.

I'm running OpenEmu on my 2010 Macbook Pro, which has a Core2Duo, and I don't have much trouble with the n64 or PS1.

That's because N64 emulation is a terrible choice

>> No.4093660

Wii if you want to play more n64 games+gamecube&wii, Pi if you want more PS1 games and more non nintendo shit. Right now i'm using a Wii with tons of installed wads and injected wads with the games that aren't available on the VC and it's pretty damn good. I need a classic controller and component cables right now though.

MacBook. OpenEmu is tops.

It depends
Wii: If you wanna plug it into an old SDTV
Macbook: if you're using an HDTV and want the best gamepad support
RPi: If you're green and vegan and care about the electricity bill for some reason

Where do you download your wads from? I've been looking for a working wad of Mischief Makers and I haven't had any luck so far

Torrent sites, several of them offer the entire virtual console catalog. You'll have to look a bit deeper to find injected wads or spend some time to do them yourself. You're able to inject mischief makers or emulate it via Not64 on your wii. (Haven't found a wad of mm so I don't think someone have publicly uploaded one.)

>what are Wii VC

Oh wow, the 1st party Nintendo titles that have worked for years on PJ64

>Gamecube Softmodding

What could possibly be the advantage if it uses the same shit emulator selection we have today?

>and Raspberry PI 3 or higher

The 3 can't even run N64 at playable speeds. But that's not even the issue. The issue is N64 emulation is ass unless you have a GPU that supports vulkan and you use parallel. That actually got the broken games and effects to work but I haven't heard about any milestones since its announcement and alpha release a year ago - and back then it had speed issues on i7s.

Found all my stuff on the bay.
>WiiWare_WiiVC_WiiChannel_MEGAPACK -unzipped

>Wii NTSC-U Complete Virtual Console Collection

These are the names of them. The 2nd one is the complete collection while the first one I named has some injected games that you might be interested it. GL in finding it. Make sure you get the unzipped one so it's easier to sort. Might take awhile before it starts to DL.

I can emulate up to Gamecube/PS2 on my macbook just fine.
Although I completely wiped OSX and installed windows, so that probably helped.

I know, I know.
The graphics card is even worse, clocking in at 450 mhz, with a whopping 32 shader cores and 256 megabytes of VRAM!

That said, it does still holds up pretty well, and when I need power, I have my desktop, which has a 4.0 ghz Skylake processor and a RX480 running at 1.3 ghz.

i recently dug out my old n64 with all my games and im sad to find out a bunch of my games are missing. Mario Party 2, Starfox 64, super mario 64, majoras mask...

Is the wii vc emulation for these games good enough or should i try to buy the carts? Some of these are a bit expensive..

nintendo is pretty good about making sure emulation actually works, afaik for any N64 or arcade game, VC is the way to go.

what I'd like to know is: is there a way to run Japanese VC on a US Wii? I can't even find wads but it would be nice to know...

This, OpenEmu is great, and even runs better than the standalones.

(I only tested this with DS emulation, but OpenEmu gets about 5 more FPS than Desume standalone)
