407852 No.407852 [Reply] [Original]

Just picked this up today and I am having a great time so far. More Zelda than FF in my opinion, but hey, it is fun as hell. I like that they kept leveling up, but gave it more of an action twist.

The dialog is awful though. What were the translators on?

Eh, that's not how it worked. It wasn't developed as a Final Fantasy game and shares nothing in common with the rest of them outside of the name and some creature crossovers.

It is also a container. When something is in a container, it is IN the container, not AT the container. That is all I was pointing out. The basement is indoors, a container. And the casket is also a container.

FFA comes off a bit more dark and gritty.

Sword of Mana tends to dumb the story and visuals down and make it more childish.

Because it's a Mana game and the FF title was just tacked on, it's only considered a spinoff:

We came to a conclusion on this early in the thread. It was developed in Japan as a final fantasy spin off. Literally a side story. "Supplementary story" is in the title of it.

Mana is a FF spin off just like Mario is a Donkey Kong spin off. But yes, it is the first of the Mana series.

I'm most definitely going to. I wasn't much into FF before this, but I just bought a GBP so I figured I needed something substantial on it. Bought this and Link's Awakening. The handheld FFs seem really good. I liked FF9 and X-2 for some reason... But the rest of the series never really struck me as anything special.

That might have changed.

>> No.413801

>>413712
Well for the handheld, the Final Fantasy Legend trilogy is the SaGa trilogy. Final Fantasy Legend III being the easiest to get into and also easiest to complete. Made by the Mystic Quest team and it only has a few aspects related to the first two games.

Final Fantasy Legend I and II are worth playing because they have different races that develop in different ways (no experience points or levels). They also have weapon durability and no real defined setting, you go traveling among different worlds with their own settings. From more typical RPG landscapes to even ruined future cities in which you use a hover cycle to traverse the map.

I HIGHLY suggest finding booklets online and reading through them because the booklet is required reading for the Final Fantasy Legend (SaGa) series.

Booklet is required? I might just try to pick them up CIB because... In box is funner I guess.

>> No.413846

Yeah, otherwise you will be trying to figure out some of the growth mechanics. In the first game humans are completely item dependent, you need to buy their armors, weapons, and stat growth potions to make them stronger. Monsters need to eat monster meat so they can transform into different monsters. If you just played the game blind without any information you would have no clue what would be going on, and even think some races were useless. I say this because I have read some user reviews online and some people didn't know about using potions on humans to make them stronger thus they had a human with unaltered stats by the time they could go into the tower. That is just asking for your human to die, and eventually run out of lives and perma-die.

The first Final Fantasy Legend. All characters start with three hearts, you can lose them when they die. You COULD buy more hearts, but they are very expensive, and pretty much impossible to get early game because of the cost. If someone dies you can just recruit someone new. You can have a party of a minimum of one person and maximum of four. There have been solo runs.
