Originally the room was a 25x40 garage. Like five years ago, my niece and nephew needed a place to stay and the two other bedrooms were occupied (my kids), so I had it converted to a guest bedroom, integrating the house's central air, installing a half-bath, et cetera. A year or so back they eventually moved out and I had this really nice room just sitting there being unused. So, I slapped wood paneling on the walls (*I* love it, I think it makes the room really comfortable, while my wife thinks it looks tacky as shit), dragged my recliner, mini-fridge and all my vidya out there and converted it to my gaming room.

I had mine custom built for my specifications. You're probably better off trying to find one of those old stands that were sold with brand new trinitons at the time. Since my tv is so ridiculously huge and heavy (~40 inches wide include the bezel, and a little bit more then 300lb) I was looking for something that could actually support the weight. That and I wanted space for at least 7 or 8 consoles. (There's a ton of space behind the consoles pictures) so I ended up going for a totally custom order stand. I'm very fortunate to have a roommate who works with these kinds of materials. Not sure if you can tell but the thickness of the frame is ridiculous. Pretty sure this stand could support 600lb.

I know most of /vr/ seems to badmouth HDCRT's, but by far that Wega is my favourite TV that I have ever owned. I mostly have "non" vr related systems hooked up to it so ultimately not much for concern. Though I must say the PS2 (component) looks fucking stellar on the Wega as does Dreamcast (s-video).

The Trinitron is definitely a gorgeous TV when it comes to actual vr systems. I have my SNES hooked up through S-video and honestly the picture is unreal.

Different anon but most Beovision MX models from the 80s and 90s were godlike. They were incredibly expensive but shit, they looked amazing. What's even better is that the PAL TVs had automatically NTSC support so you could use american or japanese ones on it. Never had a Trinitron so I can't say if they are the best but I think they're some of the best choices for a consumer CRT.

I have about 300 laserdiscs in my collection. It's interesting to see just how high quality a composite image can be (LDs are physically encoded using composite). I'm confident they're truer than DVDs on every level but now that we have Blu-Ray and BRRips I feel like they're only as-good for films that were shot on actual film but that's most of the titles available so...

Yeah, I've just begun to collect laserdiscs but it's neat to see how well the theory translates into practice. Even on a big HDTV they look like a very faithful reproduction of the image (but in standard definition obviously). DVDs so often suffer from compression artifacts, bad mastering and encoding in general, etc. And what a world of difference there is between LD and VHS.

I'm just setting up at the moment but there's a Sony TA-F55 amp and pair of APM-22ES speakers earmarked to go in when I get a moment.

Presently it's just the stock SS-X6A speakers on the PVM and Profeel. They're okay in a pinch but seriously lacking in the BASS department.

The players do seem to have become a little more expensive in recent years. If you want to be recognized as having a "good one" you are probably going to have to spend $100-$200.

I'm extremely cheap and I never spend that kind of money (not all at once at least) on a silly hobby like this, so it took me a very long time to find a laserdisc player in my price range. Most thrift stores won't take them anymore, but since they look just like 5-CD changers it's possible for one to slip through. I eventually got a 90s-era Panasonic consumer-grade LD player for $10 from a hispanic thrift store.

Well, I'm sure there probably is some lag, it's not really noticeable for me. Maybe because i mainly play shooters (memory based?) and rpgs, The big dip for some folks however is the 480i only. And also, this particular system won't ever display true 4:3, i can stretch 4:3 systems and it's decent. but i can't emulate older shooters who have a narrower screen alright,

If you have lower standards on picture quality(like me, i prefer composite)
and won't emulate systems with weird resolutions i guess it's fine. But i just play man. The RGB men would probably slay me.
I've compared some shooters on my sp1 on my B&O to the emulation on my cheap emulation rig. I can't really tell the difference but i know there is one. (won't stop me from enjoying the game though)

I got it at a second hand shop for 2 bucks... so it's much too expensive to just give away.

(btw it's 50hz only) don't really matter when you emulate, for me.

Changed out the SHVC for a SNES Jr and put in a stand for some coffee. Next I'd like to get something else to put the TV on.

I have a dedicated library room now, so no more game storage in my room.
Emulated(NTSC RGB Filter) SNES looks better on my LCD than the original hardware.

There's nothing to run the wires stapled to the joists behind, just the other side which would be equally visible and I'm not about to run anything across the floor it's way too damp so some wires are going to come down from above that's just the nature of the beast. The wires coming from behind the plasma are mostly controller cables although there are 3 VGA cables since I was running a switchbox to go back and forth from PC to 360. The HDMI input doesn't work funnily enough, just the analog inputs (VGA and component). This probably means something about the panel itself but I'm not sure exactly what.

The furniture is just goodwill stuff. The wooden shelving I built is all sitting on bricks and screwed to the joists. Unless things are in contact with the floor they don't get wet. I did end up having some flooding down there in the spring after I moved in so it was a damn good thing I foresaw that possibility and arranged everything accordingly but now that I've redone the floor drain and the gutters it's fairly dry.

I've been looking for a TV stand that would hold it. Its over 220lbs IIRC, so it needs something rugged. During the war my grandma worked in the factory where the flyback transformer in that TV was made. I have the original receipt for that TV. The picture tube shattered internally twenty years before I was born. I tried for two weeks to give away the internals before I junked them. I'd say look for a TV stand from the CRT era. You can still find them at goodwill. I had a 40 inch Sony with a flat glass front (which made it even heavier) on one of those formerly ubiquitous matte black TV stands in an apartment I used to live in, and it held up fine.
Another idea would be checking the weight bearing ratings of cheap IKEA furniture. Even some of the flimsy looking stuff is rated to hold 250 lbs or more. Whether you buy an IKEA piece or not, it might give you some confidence that similarly cheap-looking pieces from a thrift store will be able to hold the weight.

are the lil 13 inch combo crt's usually fine and still a big upgrade over nearly any lcd? i've been thinking about getting one they're pretty cheap but alot of them are MONO, i don't mind needing some speakers externally but it complicates a tiny setup a bit - also are there any sortof, "driver" boxes you can get that will do high quality minimal delay composite/component to VGA for using a nicer pc monitor?

I fucking love Dreamcast through s-video on the Wega. The picture is unreal to look at personally. I also have to say again that PS2 through component is a godsend.
