I've beaten Domai to submission and then moved on to Datajack. Marr, a long time ally decides to ally with her and go to war against me. Caught slightly off-guard, but I have a significant tech lead and a monstrous powerhouse back home ready to pump out huge numbers of units at demand.

Funny thing. I made a Huge map because I wanted to do a little builder run. Everyone but the aliens were huge fucking dicks though. I didn't ask for a single vendetta in this game, they were all imposed on me. Now Marr decides to be a dick too. Might as well pump out a few busters at this point and create a crater out of his shitty little island. Yeah, I'm pretty sure that's what's gonna happen. Global warming-shwarming.

So what's the best way of beating the Hive's numbers in the early-mid game as the Believers. He's pretty much stuck on land after I had near total control of the seas. So far I captured one of his lightly defended cities. He's massing troops nearby but so far he won't recapture it since my probe teams go around causing drone riots, draining energy, stealing tech and units. Playing on standard map with lots of ocean coverage.

Haven't played believers yet, but for general advice, you could do what I do and turtle until you have a technological edge. Give him the coastal bombardment treatment with your ships until they reach the 50% health cap, then take the city by storm with some high attack [/spoiler]chariots ROVERS. Weakening them first gives you a huge advantage and it effectively cancels the benefit of a defensive perimeter. If you're not confident you can keep the city from being recaptured DO NOT focus on building infrastructure in the new city (although you should really bring enough units to finish what you started.) Focus on units to bolster your defenses - rush them if you really need to.

If you really don't want the base in yang's hands you can follow the scorched earth principle and bleed the city dry for lab points. Assign every worker to be a specialist, this will give you a nice science (or economy) bonus while the city quickly starves. Or, for added hilarity, "steal" his workers by shipping colony pods back home. Don't forget to recycle all his buildings before the city is retaken and/or starves to death!

>> No.411872

>>410730

Perhaps you should because Yang is all about massing fuckloads of units. It's how he's designed to be played and how the AI plays him too. Defending taken cities may not be worth it -- it depends on the location and whether you need a place to repair your units. A simple monolith can do the job too. However, defending shouldn't be too difficult as all Hive bases begin with a Perimeter Defense and Yang's forces are numerous but usually technologically behind. Yang can't into money. At the end of the day, it really really depends on the situation.

Ask yourself why you're even at war. Are you afraid of him turning on you down the line or do you want his territory?

Situation Update: I tried starving them but that didn't work since at best I could only get it stagnate. Yang then foolishly sent his Rovers to die in the face of my occupying force, eliminating any fast-moving threats. Continuous bombardment on his troops (with foils and impact artillery) caused him to foolishly split up his stack of death, allowing me to pick them off. While he's distracted, I sent a Rover to probe his defenses and managed to capture a lightly defended base. As Yang scrambled his forces to respond to the flank attack, my blitz on all his bases went uninterrupted and now I control all of the Pholus Ridge. As for his reinforcements coming from his capital, The Hive, they sank to the bottom of the ocean due to my Sea Former submerging the small piece of land connecting his Capital to the Pholus Ridge cities.

Why I went to war with Yang? To prevent him from expanding into the sea ( he tried to invade one of my cities by sea) and to control the Pholus Ridge. All this was made easier with my Tree Farms triggering Golden Age in my cities and my probe teams running wild.

Right now I'm building cruisers to prepare myself for renewed conflict with the Spartans in order to monopolize the oceans. Santiago doesn't look so good since she's sandwiched between Zakharov and Morgan. Deidre in the mean time continues her mindworm-loving ways uninterrupted.

Too bad for Zakharov really. Most of his bases had drone riots during the Spartan invasion and he was insistent in being paid in full instead of half for a Blood Truce. By the time he had one city left, that's when he agreed for a tech transfer. A turn after that, he was no more. Morgan lost his Capital and only the sea separates him from the bloodthirsty Spartans.

Haha, looks like Sid himself has something to say on this, when discussing design for Civ I:

>The original game was twice as big. Another rule I call the "Civilization Rule": Don't make the map too big. The concept of Civilization was the history of the world, so you have to have a big map. The original map was twice the size, and the game just bogged down. Part of the pacing of a game is this relentless progress. We finally turned it around to where the map was smaller, time progressed more quickly, and the game felt epic, even though it moved pretty quickly. So that was another rule: More is not necessarily better.

Playing as peacekeepers because brother lel is the only one who still has a respectable supply of marbles to lose. Anyway, I accidentally made a game with only one progenitor faction and it's quite unbalanced, cult of planet was wiped out within 50 turns and I believe the gaian's were forced to relocate on some shitty little continent trail-of-tears style.

The fate of humanity is at stake, we have to exterminate some fucking aliens before they call in a fleet. So the whacko does the only logical thing and declares war on me over a simple difference of values: I chose "wealth" over "knowledge." Everyone else is waging war on the alien menace, don't you think we should postpone this little dispute until AFTER the fate of our species is secured? He's not stupid, so he obviously has a hidden agenda.

Of course, just as I'm ready to steal all his preshusss weapon techs with a wave of probe teams and whip him back into shape he sues for peace and demands I hand over my prize tech, air superiority - but not without the added threat that he'll crush me if I don't. I respectfully disagree with his analysis, even with his superior technology my industrial capacity dwarfed his, but it was not in character for me to continue hostilities when an opportunity was presented for peace after fucking 100 years of radio silence. Manipulative bastard.

Oh, and Morgan, being the shrewd motherfucker he is, made peace with the aliens and is probably trading techs with them. See, everyone trades their techs with morgan. EVERYONE. If I sell a tech it's a safe bet it'll end up in alien hands sooner or later, Zakharov and I are the only ones with the capability to cause lasting harm to them. Morgan MIGHT be able to help if he didn't want 3500c to continue the war he previously agreed to fight for around 500c, and I don't want that kind of wealth in his hands. So he's become this irritating sort of species traitor. I've been supplying zakharov with a steady supply of credits in order to keep the peace so I can buy his techs legitimately (stealing them would have been so much easier, sigh). In particular I REALLY want organic superlubricant.

But I fear it may already be too late. The caretakers probably have more cities than I do and the only reason they haven't really grown beyond size 7 is because they lack the required technology or infrastructure to do so, but it's only a matter of time.

I pray that we do not fail.
