>Yes
I always thought the N64 had the worst library
Cartridges were expensive to make, and it didn't hold as much as a CD.
Developers were making the switch to CDs. Capcom didn't realise Mega Man 8 on the N64/Square went to Sony.
Nintendo Fucked themselves over by sticking to cartridge.
There are only about 15 good N64 games and the rest are just shovelware

Absolutely.

Between its shit library, shit video output, shit controller and shit fanbase I'm surprised it gets any love whatsoever.

This thing is the fucking poster boy of meme consoles.

Nice memestic speak.
Also, Hudson made some good games on it, same for Natsume.
There's far worse consoles than N64, but if you want to have a hateboner for it, I don't care, to each their own.

>> No.4075547

Let's get real, the main reason so many people on /vr/ hate the system (apart from boogeymen like "nintendo fanboys") is the fact that the console is a pain to emulate
>but I can emulate all the games!
Tell me about your graphical glitches and how you have to spend time setting plugins, only to find out that there's still more glitches.

N64 - the slowdown king
it has the worst framerates of all the main consoles

>> No.4075604

The N64 had multiplayer going for it. Thinking back to when I was a kid if it hadn't had that then I really don't think I would have gotten as much out of it as I did.

That being said I had a hell of a lot more fun with half a dozen friends playing LAN games in my dad's office/shed. I'm still not sure why he had so many computers set up...

Everything. It's just a filler word that means whatever you want it to mean. Like something? It's a meme. Hate something? What a meme. Meme meme meme meme meme.

If I could pick one word to be filtered on this site, it'd be "meme". Would improve the site instantly.

The N64 was rather shitty but I enjoyed Ocarina of Time, Mario 64, and Dook Nukem. Goldeneye was alright if I had friends over but back then, I'd have preferred to play Quake on the PC. Goldeneye had to have been the most overrated game of its time. It was a great shooter for people that didn't game on the PC.

Oh look its this thread again

If you liked FPS games, racing games, and wrestling games you were a ok on N64. Those wrestling games on N64 were the best in the wrestling genre at the time. Games like 1080 Snowboarding, Waverace, Beetle Adventure racing, list goes on and on.

To say there were only 15 games on the system worth owning is absolutely stupid and im tired of seeing this thread.

No, it's because aside from a few admittedly influential games people often overstate it's popularity by a large margin, mostly due to said games.

t. Guy who physically playd a lot of N64 as a kid

They exist just as much as Sony or Sega fanboys do. Don't even try to deny that.

Obvious bait, but it's nice to have all the games you want without breaking the bank. There are probably even fewer good games for Atari 2600, but it's still a blast to own some of the best ones.

I think the n64 is the worst mistake in all of video game history. Just think about it, the way the entire modern games industry is the way it is because of one simple decision to go carts instead of CDs. Can you imagine what today would look like if they went with CDs? FF7 would have come out for the n64, Sony might have never taken off. Sega may have never left to make room for microsoft and Halo would have been on Mac.

The Cd decision and ff7 may very well be the most important things of all time in video games. Everything today stems from this.

Discs are already becoming obsolete and we're going back to carts/cards.
I'm glad, too, I always hated loading times.

>> No.4075940

>>4075934
Yeah sure we are now because prices for flash storage and digital distribution. But at its time, going for carts instead of cds, and then mini dvds instead of full dvds were all just really bad decisions.

>> No.4075949

>>4075940
Maybe, I dunno. I appreciate the N64 for being the last console with actual carts.

>> No.4075960

>>4075927
Discs held more. Remember that with every console to that point, things were always cut from games because they couldn't fit it all on the Cart. Doom64 had the Revenants on the cart, but they weren't implemented because they ran out of room and had to make cuts.

Now we're returning to Carts/Cards because its cheaper and it can hold more. You don't have to make a new reader that can read CD/DVD/BluRay and the later iterations of each, you don't have to swap out a cart for the second half of a game, and in general, the carts have better load times. We're going back to the way things should be.

Disc was only convenient for storage requirements.

>> No.4075967

>>4075960
Many people here are too underage to remember how insanely massive a 700MB CD-R was at the time. When they were released, one CD could hold more than your computer's entire hard drive. Like, way more.

>> No.4075990

>>4075960
I'm not saying discs were better I know carts are actually better. I know all of this, but forget how much better they are these days and think about back then. For the time, discs were definitely better for developers. They were cheaper and developers could fit a bigger game. FF7 was originally going to come out for the N64 but it simply did not fit. FF7 was the game that sold the playstation, imagine if it had come out on the N64.

Nintendos decision to go with carts instead as well as their attitude towards 3rd party devs was ultimately their downfall and they have still not caught up since. They got a lucky break with the Wii of course, but things would definitely be different if they decided to use CDs for the n64.

>FF7 was originally going to come out for the N64 but it simply did not fit.
I wished these rumors would stop spreading so wildly. As soon as the project moved on from its SNES roots, Square always had the FF7 project dead set for the PS1 for two reasons:

>1. To utilize the storage space in a manner that could help them tell the story with little to no compromise.

>2. Storage costs for cartridges att was obviously so expensive that they were forced to also drive up the MSRP of their later SNES games in order to recuperate costs (they used FM: Gun Hazard and Bahamut Lagoon as examples of this phenomenon).
