What's so good about the Sony Trinitron compared to a normal CRT?

>> No.4063724

Its meme power level

>> No.4063728

The trinitron colours are much deeper and more satisfying. Also the picture is crisper.

>> No.4063731

I hooked up my raspberrypi to my brothers lg flatron and the colors are so off its ridiculous.
Sony crt tvs are vastly superior

aperture grill has more space dedicated to the phosphors than the mask.

This, it really makes the pixels squarer but some people honestly prefer the bumpier edges shadow mask gives. Lots of really beautiful Mitsubishi consumer CRTs out there.

They have a better external aesthetic than most other TVs. Obviously get a TV that looks great rather than a shitty plastic one.

Haha it's Japanese RF on a US TV, and a severely downsized picture at that. I posted it mainly because the set itself is cool. That pic wasn't intended to show off picture quality, it looks much better on composite, which is also the best it supports, of course.

>> No.4068417

international brand, so it will support both 50hz and 60hz consoles. Great for EU ppl, if they buy an import 60hz console and hook it up to a 50hz tv there won't be any color. also will handle RGB like a pro. Trinitrons was (and still is) damn expensive monitors. High quality all around

>> No.4068664

>>4063702
The wega trinitons are even better. Not going to get a better display other than broadcast monitors. Got a wega KD-28DX200U for free recently and was blown away by the picture and sound difference from my Panasonic crt which had geometry and colour failure. Didn't know this before but the wega degauses when you switch it on like a crt monitor. Playing using rgb scart gives almost monitor grade clarity and vibrancy. I wouldn't have believed it if I didn't have it sat on my table right now (all 60kg+ of it! - Oh my back getting it up the stairs though.)

Seriously, I'm done helping people. It's not that I have an expectation of being able to get help for a favor down the line. I'm just friends with a bunch of selfish cunts apparently.

I can't wait for the next one to ask me for something and I can just tell him he should've helped me get that TV.

Keep checking your local freecycle about x3 daily. I've seen about 1 decent crt every month. That's how I got my wega. Guy even delivered it for me for free. I had to carry it up my stairs though (with the help of my much stronger bro eventually when I almost dropped it). No luck with pvm or the holy grail BVM, those are rare.

You have to buy an add-on that costs more than the Pi itself, effectively making the whole abomination a less useful Wii at 5x the cost.

>> No.4070526

>>4070432
Oh kek
Is that the converter that is supposed to have lag?

>> No.4070835

>>4070526
The converter is true analog RGB, so no lag there. The lag on the pi is either emulation lag, bluetooth controller lag, or USB controller lag. A Wii is basically the same in those respects (though wired controllers through the GCN ports are nearly lagless) and are literally $10 at a thrift store near you, especially if you want to play on a CRT. Pi has the advantage for HD support and for PSX games actually being playable. That said, I do all my emulating on a Wii with a $4 Wii2HDMI adapter and clean 480p ain't too bad on my 720p TV. Just my opinion. native GCN and Wii game support is a nice plus for the Wii as well, things the Pi obviously can't do.

>> No.4070841

>>4070835
>A Wii is basically the same in those respects
This is true for homebrew emulators, but it's worth noting that the official VC emulators have very low lag. The difference is especially noticeable for SNES.

>> No.4070881

>>4063702
it's a sony marketing meme.
they made a simplified tube that was cheaper to manufacture and marketed it like it was the next best thing. somehow that caught on.
technically the only advantage is improved brightness, since the phosphors have a larger surface area.

>> No.4070901

>>4070841
Oh absolutely, I didn't intend to imply otherwise. And while the GCN controller is garbage for retro games, I got a PSX to GCN adapter which lowers the lag for homebrew emulators as well, and Playstation controllers are cheap and plentiful.
>>4070881
That's objectively false, Trinitrons weren't a meme at all when they launched. They received rave reviews and were widely regarded as excellent in brightness and color reproduction at the time.
