Yeah, there are. A "1.0" is the original print of a game and "1.1" and beyond are usually greatest hits editions. Doesn't get too crazy unless it's Tomb Raider or something.

I don't think it's that. I think it's the desire to have exclusivity. It's like being part of a secret club house where you have to work really hard to figure out the secret handshake that lets you in. When you finally do, you get a sense of accomplishment. Then that one smartass figures out the handshake but starts handing out the secret to all the kids in the neighborhood, until clubhouse isn't so secret anymore.

Also, the fewer people know about these safe Emulator databases, the less chances Nintendo is going to drop the hammer on them. So it's a good idea to keep them hush-hush.

download a fullset (there's several at archive.org, and emuparadise might even still have them up but I can't be arsed to check), disk is cheap and you can fit basically every pre-5th gen cartridge-based system's full romsets (individually zipped, since most remotely decent emulators let you load zipped roms) on a 32GB microSD
