Which do you guys prefer? I like the more straight-forward nature of II. 3's puzzles are pretty nuts in places.

I like VB and 1. 2 and 3 were too casualized by making you immortal.

>> No.4060028

I gotta go with 3. I love games where you have to backtrack to earlier levels with new abilites. People say it artificially lengthens the game, but I disagree I think it adds mystery to the experience when you see an area you can't reach yet.

I think he meant whether II or 3 were more popular, which is also what I'm more curious about than most popular game in general.

We have this thread every other week.

Personally I prefer 3. Some dislike the backtraking/"metroidvania-light" elements, especially after coming from 2, but to me those (very) light RPG elements add another dimension to gameplay, greatly increasing immersion in the game world.

Also the game looked and sounded beautiful.

2 is the only good Wario Land game.

I always enjoy how eloquently fans of WL2 argue their point of WL2 being the most superior installment in the series.

it's the least played one by the majority of people so naturally vr likes it. every 4chan community does this. soul hackers was the SMT holy grail before it got translated. Tales of Destiny DX and tales of rebirth are both highly praised right now, watch what happens when they're widely available in English

Really loved that feeling as a kid. It was so satisfying when you finally got past the obstacles with your new abilities.

I agree.
I also felt the controls were a bit smoother than WL2 once you got all the abilities.

A game you can die in is less casual than a game you cannot die in. But I forget that /vr/ can only deal in absolutes.

What a well-worded rebuttal. Just because you don't like something doesn't mean it's bad.

Maybe you should simply not play games you don't like, hm? Or are you mad that mommy got you the wrong game for your birthday?

Death isn't the only metric for challenging game design. 100%'ing WL3 (including all 8 music coins per stage) is the hardest thing in the franchise because some are hidden very well.

So you're just going to use the word "casual" as a stand in for perceived lack of difficulty? Compare the example >>4061120 made in comparison to say, being able to 100% WL1.

>So you're just going to use the word "casual" as a stand in for perceived lack of difficulty?
I'm going to use it in the sense that certain game design panders to casuals, and that there are varying degrees of casual, not just HARDCORE and CASUAL. But if it makes you happy, none of the Warios are hardcore.

>Compare the example >>4061120 made in comparison to say, being able to 100% WL1.
Well, he's wrong. Hardcore platforming design takes actual practice and skill. Chancing upon a hidden item is not comparable at all.

To be fair the invulnerability was an interesting experiment/proof of concept.
When I first heard about it I thought WL2 was going to be awful and then I ended up enjoying it when it was released.
Still prefer the first one though.
