lets be honest tho, a HUGE portion of the gba library tend to be these terrible isometric games based on movie and tv show liscences. i wouldnt really consider the gba retro just based on that, there were so many crappy spongebob and movie tie in games for the gba, overall the console doesnt feel retro at all for me, i rememebr it more for that as opposed to the ports of the snes games which i feel were inferior to the snes versions for the most part because of the worse sound and the wider aspect ratio forcing them to cut off part of the screen

It's abundantly obvious when browsing any thread here that the majority of posters are generation Z fags who have hopped on le retro bandwagon because their favorite YouTubers are covering wacky and quirky retro games. Discussions rarely move beyond completely juvenile opinions about such games that could only be formulated by people with no ability to put them into context, likely because they weren't around when they were originally released. Thus the discussions become about the game's value as a relic of the past, instead of the game's value as a video game in its own right.

The GBA itself is almost old enough to be an adult. Calling everything 'underage' because it violates the imaginary line of 2000's is the behavior of an irrational suffer of asperger's. The system is closer to the Atari era than the current year. On top of that, the system hardware of the system is basically taken from consoles of the early 90's. The mods here suck. Plain and simple. They're obviously injecting their own biases and shit into their moderation, and it's blatantly obvious. The fact that retarded console war threads don't get nuked right away, but threads that mention Sonic Mania get nuked in about 4-5 replies is proof enough.

I get that Sonic Mania isn't actually 'retro', but it obviously is going to be something that appeals to retro gamers, and mods should use their fucking brains for 2 seconds and realize that Mania is obviously something that's going to be appealing to your average /vr/ denizen, at least on some level. The dogmatic adherence to what is and isn't 'retro' is stupid, and arbitrary to say the least.

Should we be allowed to talk about shit like the retron? Technically it's a console that came out after 1999. What about the Doom thread that's nothing more than a general? I have no problem with it, but it does seem weird that they're not booted over to /vg/.

All of that being said, I think there's a far bigger problem that's present in a board that concerns itself only with retro games: lack of big events. /v/, for better or for worse explodes during E3, and the sense of community is overwhelming. The shitposting, chat-spam, meme-spouting stupidity is stupid, but it's fun. There's a cathartic kind of release involved in getting together with a bunch of anons and sperging out a few days a year. I thought shit like AGDQ/SGDQ would kind of be our version of that, since they play so many retro games, but no one ever seems to want to talk about it here.

Basically, the board needs some serious revamp in it's rules, and in it's mods if it ever wants to become more than a niche, rage-fueled, autism specialty board.
