Terrible. Horrible bosses, horrible upgrades outside of the Z Saber, bland level design, Zero isn't even around enough for his playability to matter, the soundtrack uses horrible instruments even though the compositions are great. It's a huge step down from X1 and X2 in every way.

>> No.4004018

>>4003974
Much better than X2, but the level design has a very distinct feel. That's not necessarily bad, but it's quite obvious that the game was outsourced.

The Playable Zero hack makes this game far better.

It has much better Mavericks than X2 for sure, though if I am going back to X it is most likely going to be 1,4 or 5 due to those being the 3 I had when I was younger. I like the OSTs of both the SNES and Saturn/PSX versions, have a slight preference towards the CD quality soundtrack to the ire of some.

It was outsourced and it shows.

Still a pretty good game, just not better than X2 or X1.

First X game I played and a letdown compared to the other snes games.
I remember myself cheesing the lobster boss by spamming wall jumps, I don't recall doing anywhere in X and X2.
I didn't even know it was outsourced before this thread, and frankly it shows.

X and X2 are about on par, but I've always preferred X.

I've never really like X3 as much as the other two. It has a very different feel, it's not even something I can specifically put my finger on, it just doesn't feel the same as the other two. It's a strange combination of art design, and level design that's just... off.

I prefer X2, but I agree they're about the same.

X3 does feel really different. It's hard to articulate why exactly. It just feels a bit off. It's still a great game.

Everything is just a bit odd. Things like teh music, just feels a bit flat... I guess. The mavericks and weapons feel a bit lackluster. You take just a bit too much damage.

I've heard it described as a romhack of X2 and I think that's a really apt description.

The weakest of the SNES trilogy, with uninspired bosses and level design (anyone who thinks X2 is worse, play them again back-to-back and you'll see you're mistaken) and the cocktease of playing as Zero for less than half of each level.

Hell I would even argue X4 is better, outside of the cheesy anime cutscenes it did very little wrong and even improved somewhat on the formula (especially regarding Zero) something X3 failed to do.

Cons:
>I don't mind the instruments too much but some tracks are way too repetitive. The boss theme is like a 10 second loop, and pretty boring too.
>In 6/8 stages you have to go through the awkward useless empty rooms where Bit and Byte would appear.
>Low enemy variety. I think there's one or two stage specific enemies aside from minibosses.
>Upgraded buster looks cool but the shots are so fucking slow.
>Some enemies take like half of your hp in one hit in the beggining.
>Bossfights aren't the most interesting and some of them are pretty bugged.

Pros:
>Upwards dash is fucking great.
>Really fun to move around with neons, updash and double dash from the golden armor. Movement is great in this game. I think the stages here are more open and vertical too so that helps. Might be wrong though.
>Some tracks rock.
>X3's Sigmas are probably the most fun to fight.
>Lots of items to get. Rewards exploration a lot.
>Cool ride armors (though the way to unlock them and the stations are kinda cryptic at first)

Overall I think it's a fine game. The movement and exploration are its strongest points imo. It's definitely the odd one out of the SNES bunch, though.

Out of all 3 X games on SNES, it has the best enemy design. It's challenging just like it should be.

It also has kick ass musics and graphics and great boss fights.

It could have been the best X games but they fucked up with the rest:
>cryptic senseless BS for upgrades and other stuff like Vile
>if you want upgrades and everything, level progression and order is VERY linear because you need the weaknesses for the optional bosses
>playable Zero that's nothing more than a frustrating tease
>charge upgrade which actually make things worse most of the time

Thankfully there is a romhack which fixes all of that :

http://www.romhacking.net/hacks/888/

>fully playable Zero
>even if you don't play as Zero, it makes the game better as X by fixing the cryptic shit
>fixes the charge shot upgrade, the shots no longer have that awful delay
>you can ride battle armors as soon as you have the tanks for it, also making for less linear level progression
>Zero can charge subweapons even without the upgrade, making for less linear level progression

I am sad I threw my box away as a dumb kid. I still have my cart + manual tho... I felt MMX3 would have been better if ZERO was more playable like in X4. Solid game with Guns&Roses soundtrack and really good armor design. X3 is one of my favs but X2 is also great since you fight Zero in that. Kinuyo Yamashita did a great job on the soundtrack and I think its underrated. I also still have my MMX3 toy figure I bought at a local mall. AVOID the ps1 version it is garbage. The SATURN version of X3 has better FMVs with better framerate. Get the snes or Saturn version.

Good graphics, very smooth controls, music is alright i guess.

The enemy design is great. You can't just blast through everything spamming the attack button. Every enemy is a little challenge and you constantly have to learn the enemies, while assessing the situation. Rocking X3 takes more skill than rocking X1 and 2.

It's honestly the best thing about X3.
Only in the doppler stages it gets bullshit in some places, like wall jumping upward and an enemy you couldn't see coming hits you and sends you back down, right where another enemy respawns.... But even then it's still bareable, manageable.

I'm actually playing it for the first time now. Already beat X1 and X2 with all the upgrades and shit, had a hell of a time. X3 is alright too, still fun but am I missing something or did they hide the upgrades really well this time around? I've already beaten all the robot masters and still haven't found a single upgrade, only found 1 ride armor and a couple special upgrades that require the base upgrades to use. I hate that the music tracks, while good, are very short and looped. Would it have killed the devs to tack on an extra minute to each track?

Also, Zero is too risky to use for too little of reward. One death and he's permanently gone? The Z-Saber can't even be used against bosses, and it's not like it's a big deal for 95% of the enemy roster.

Ride Armors and Zero should've been things you could use even against bosses, i still fucking dream of being able to fight Doppler Stage 2 Vile boss fight with a Ride Armor.

Level design is OK at the very least but a lot of the good stuff like the secrets is just wasted space because the special chips are NOT worth collecting because the golden chip gives you everything and the level design shows shit was meant to be potentially beated with Ride Armors in mind but when there's a (mini) boss entrance, that's when you're locked out of the Ride Armor, which sucks for aforementioned reasons, and the music could be better, its well composed because i heard remixes and re-arranged versions of the whole MMX3 soundtrack and its amazing.

Other than that, is a great sequel. More stuff to find, longer(ish) stages, more stuff that can be done in different ways on different playthroughs, same great gameplay, stage design and boss battles...
People who pretend it's radically different in quality to the first two, for better or worse, are just being nitpicky and/or blinded by nostalgia.
