Saturn thread
Talk about any games you like or any games you absolutely despise

>> No.3994016

>worse 3D than N64
>Worse 2D than PS1

Even the 2D games are just better on the PS1. Saturn is the system that sits between both and does not have the games to support it.

Saturn can be a beast in the right hands, but I can't find a single game that compare to something like Adventures of Little Ralph or any other 2D PS1 classics.

Post these supposedly amazing Saturn games. It has one of the worst libraries ever. I've delved into the so called classics, and they're all pretty bland. And even the 2D, which is supposed to be it's niche, is outdone by the PS1.

The only thing it has going for it are nice Arcade ports.

I remember someone telling me his brother's friend had a Saturn rather than a N64 or playstation, and we both just shook our heads and sighed in pity at this poor unfortunate individual who ended up with a Saturn instead of a real fifth gen console.

Currently playing Baroque and the mood of the whole thing really works for me. Before that I was playing Panzer Dragoon but the fact I kept replaying the same first 3 levels just to get 100% burned me out of it for now. Not the best approach to a game like that but I can't contain myself.

These games are just not any fun to play at all. They might be interesting, but they're boring. A lot of weak consoles have mediocer games on their "must play" lists to pad them out, and Saturn is the same.

Hey Guys I Recently Started Playeing This Really Cool Game I Found Called Dodonpachi. It's Really Good And Obscure And Everyone Should Play It

>> No.3999052

Easily my favorite game from the system. Some of the levels are really hard to figure out at first but almost all of them are impressive in some way.

It made the best use of FMV video backgrounds in my opinion.

It also had a level where you tell jokes to defeat a monster. The parts are split up in to buttons on the controller and you have to figure out how the joke goes.

Mr, Bones could also do some really cool platforming tricks. Like he could fall apart and reassemble using his arms connected to his legs for super high jumping. Of you could hold on to one of your arms with your other arm to get extra range with attacks.

>> No.3999053

I heard something about a new everdrive-type device coming out for the Saturn. It's not the SD card mod that's already available, but something new that will plug into the back. Anyone know what it's called, or when it's coming out?

What do people see in these Treasure shooters? RS and Ikaruga are both fucking tedious to play "correctly", and if you play them like regular shooters they become pretty generic aside from a handful of genuinely stellar moments. They're decent, but I'd never call them top tier.

I thought RSG was pretty cool with its melee blade weapon and I thought the level design was pretty good (something that's usually lacking in vertis). I didn't bother playing it "correctly", just beat the final boss, but I had a good time. And I've played plenty of shmups, wouldn't call RSG generic, not by a longshot.

you should see the models used in shining force 3 scenario 2.
They are pretty good and they get better in scenario 3.
Idk how they made so many 3d models in the 4 years the saturn was out.

>> No.4000415

Ten player Bomberman in high res on a large TV with a Saturn & multitaps was an amazing experience. Bomberman also had a really awesome soundtrack.

Dark Saviour was an excellent and strangely mysterious ARPG. There aren't many gamesthat start with the hero getting shitfaced and trying to murder a kid. I played the game many times but always felt like it hid more than I was experiencing. There was a really fantastic thread here on /vr/ about it a couple years back where someone translated some audio novels (???) released to accompany the game.

I fucking love Dragon Force.

Sega were at the zenith of their creative power during the Saturn's lifespan. AM2, AM3, Sonic Team... In terms of the games it remains their best system.

I'm not a graphics whore or anything but Deep Fear really suffered from bad animation in my opinion. These characters look promising in their concept arts but FMVs unfortunately doesn't do them justice. They look and move so awkward that you can't take them seriously. It hinders the horror atmosphere and makes me wish that story didn't rely on so many FMVs because in-game graphics were pretty nice.

And before anyone thinks that I'm a /v/ermin who judges old games harshly, I like to point out that this game came out in June of 1998. Resident Evil 2 and Tekken 3 were out back then. Deep Fear looked like a launch title from 94.

Funny how the character artwork is noticeably worse than the monsters...

I guess you mean bad anim in the FMVs ? Because in terms of 3D models and in game animations, I thought that was one of Deep Fear's strongest points.

If only the game wasn't so easy, didn't give you infinite supplies, and didn't have that much boring action-less backtracking half way through , it could have been great.

bought a saturn last year. really like it. have some of the cheap games (daytona usa for example) and bought some imports i really enjoyed. the other day i see a post on facebook of a retro game shop that just got a ton of Saturn games in. its like 50 mins away but its my day off, its nice out, i got no plans might as well check the place out ive never been. joke that ill get there and games will be like 200 bucks or something. get there and realize i wasnt wrong. most the games were priced at that or around it. just say fuck it and pick up a couple cheap games since i drove out there anyways. Just stick to the imports guys lol.

games i really enjoy on it right now are
1. vampire savior
2. house of the dead (japan import only cost like 20 bucks compared to american version, guy i bought the console off of gave me a light gun with it)
3. and pocket fighter.

i also have Fighting vipers but its not that good. daytona usa is a fun little racing game. mortal kombat 2 is what you expect.
