Do I really need a translation to play this game /vr/? Is it something that I can muddle through with just the pictures and numbers?

>what am I in for

>> No.3993630

There's an official translation on Wiiware if that tickles your fancy.

>> No.3993642

There's a fan patch, dude...

I'm aware of this, but I was toying with the idea of getting a jap cart

>> No.3993738

I really like the PS3 edition port.

It isn't that text heavy but you kind of need it. It's got a lot of NPCs that hint at things and there are signs that help out with stuff like controls and additional tips.

Ah. You might need the translation as it's kind of an open world game.

Have you seen the prices? For the same money you could get a Mega Everdrive and play the Wii translation, along with every other game on the console.

If you go blind into the game you'll be fine and can certainly beat it with pure trial and error, but you'll BE curbstomped hard in the ice pyramid stage, starting with a 10 question long quiz that randomply picks from like maybe 20 or 30 variables, then to a puzzle that requires you using five items in order which you must do 3 times.

>mfw I still have a post-it with those answers from my first walkthough of MW4 visible on my desk.

why not just buy an english repro cart

>> No.3994249

Just learn Japanese already.

>> No.3994369

>>3993621
No. There are parts you need to be able to read. But with some sort of guide that includes a bit of Japanese you'd have to match with what you see on the screen it should be fine. No idea why you would want to do this though. Fake weeb cred?

>>3993878
Weren't those just simple yes or no questions? A list of 30 short Japanese sentences with the correct answer would solve that. Same with the items.

>>3994249
You seriously overestimate the intelligence, drive, and attention span of the average anon.

Thank you for your answers, this clarifies things.

Not quite. I've kind of got a stick up my ass about playing cartridge instead of emulation. I've been looking around now and then for an English repro that'd both be reasonable of price and not have a piece of fucking plywood for a pcb. If it's super simple and Japanese is not requiref for more than story, I could widen my search to jap carts as well.

but yeah, thanks

why people jump at repros over flash carts I'll never understand.

I guess it's like the difference between getting a realistic dildo and a green vibrator with pleasure nodules. One's clearly a better product than the other, but I'll still pine for that false sense of authenticity.

What I don't get is who the fuck is paying the inflated prices for these fucking repros. Usually I can get enough of them for 50bux to sink a small boat.

I finished it just fine when I was 10 years old.
Local cartridge seller got some nice stuff from Japan in the mail and got me Monster World IV because I was always asking for JRPGs for MegaDrive (all games in my country were bootlegs, so it was hard to find them).

My dad helped me with this puzzle. He recorded questions to VCR and wrote key symbols on paper for me.
That's probably the hardest part, but I'm sure you can do it.
But at this point if I was you, I would buy an Everdrive.

Sorry for blogging, it's just one of my most favourite games, always happy to see it discussed. Have an Asha.

Had a quick look and there's 20 questions it can choose from. They're listed along with the answers in a Japanese guide.

>>3994458
Sounds like a flash cart is the way to go for you.

Sure, but playing it as a teenager while not having a internet conection at home was pretty challenging.
Doing annotations for the quiz actually encouraged me to learn moonrunes (that and the gallery from Rockman & Forte) so I'm thankful of it but it's definitely the "hardest" part of the game for a non jap speaker.

>>3994543
I love that kind of anecdotes, anon.
That was like 15 years ago in my case so it was only memorizing the kanji and trial or error for me

this. Why do you want to buy a Japanese game without knowing Japanese? Unless its fucking Tetris, you'll eventually hit a linguistic block.

It was almost 15 years ago for me as well, 2001.
MWIV will always take special place in my heart.

my brother got the Wiiware version of this, and after watching him play a bit I had a go.
I noticed the npc's have odd responses if you pick negative dialogue responses.

kept saying no to the genie
holy fuck
