Hey /vr/, how can you play retro games on HDTVs without lag? I was recently trying to play Melee and I noticed something was off, and come to find out, anything that was originally analogue (including the Wii) has input lag on HDTVs. Anyone know how to fix this?

You will most likely need to use an upscaler and fiddle around the settings to get minimum amount of lag

What kind of upscaler? Are there any that are good (other than Framemeister, I can't afford that).

You need one of these. You also need to play around with a good chunk of televisions before you find one with minimal lag.

It personally took me about 3 tvs before I found one that has practically zero lag. It's barely noticeable. Only the most hardcore would notice. This is your only option. Run it through S-Video or Composite(Progressive Scan) and then through a Framemeister.

Your cheapest alternative is to just man up and use a CRT.

You will have to look into a monitor with low lag. There is input lag (electronics) and gray to gray screen lag. You can't reduce the lag to zero to my knowlege so it won't ever be like a CRT.

All of them suck besides the Framemeister. Sorry dude the reason its expensive is because there is no real competition, the rest are cheap pieces of shit.

>> No.3985009

Damn, guess I'll have to find some room to put a CRT then. And find one, it seems like they are getting hard to find even in thrift stores nowadays.

Underage leave. Also not retro either.

It's why I use a Framemeister. All of my characters are about the same using it except for Fox, but I'm a better Falco/Peach/Young Link anyway.

I run my PS2 through my framemeister. Looks a hell of a lot better than without. Cry more.

Still, you're right. Not retro. Thought I'd help the guy out before the thread was deleted in 72 hours.

Lol, I'm not underage. I'm probably older than you, but I am a newfag to this board. Thanks for the help everyone.

Anyways, this also applies to older consoles as well.

Instead of going through all this scaling bs, just look through your TV's settings for a "Game Mode" or something similar. If it was made within the last 5 years it should have it, it basically removes all after-effects that would otherwise cause lag in your picture.

You still notice it pretty badly in Melee tbqhf. On my TV, Game mode only helps marginally. I noticed immense improvement with the framemeister and S-video.

But like I said earlier, it sometimes varies between tvs
