show me a more comfy retro racing game than Gran Turismo 2, and I will try it.

GT2 is so perfect. so many cars. the only gripes I have is that in the western version, they replaced the Honda NSX's and Integras with the inferior Acura versions. also, they changed the music, don't get me wrong I like Stone Temple Pilots, but the original Japanese soundtrack is much better. much less boring to hear after the hundredth time while doing the endurance races.

anyway show me some comfy racing games!

Rage Racer has its own hurdles that drive me nuts too. I don't know how to disengage drifts without it stalling to like 20km/h for no reason at all even though my drift was clean. MT-only cars was a stupid idea too.

>> No.3980402

>>3980346
Thats my only gripe with it. It is almost a perfect game with the combination of great controls, visual style and music. But its so stupid that you have to lose races to unlock all the cars. Also it would be cool if it was possible for it to have more tracks.

>> No.3980419

>>3980005
This is the feeling I was looking for but had to go back to GT1 rather than 2. The GT2 AI is constantly trying to crash you/each other and making no attempt to take something resembling a racing line. The only way to really circumvent that is having an overpowered car to stay ahead of them, and even then it's hard to stay interested because the cup series allow you to switch cars between each race. That's what made GT1 so "comfy" for me - you'd get the feel you were racing against actual opponents, maybe even some rival car that you knew you had to get aggressive with to keep him out of the standings.

>> No.3980420

>>3980364
For years I had this same gripe about Rage but all of a sudden it just clicked for me. Only took like... 17 years but I can finally manage clean drifts. It's tough, but that tension makes the game pretty damn exciting.

The license tests exist to teach you how to drive a fucking car.

You might be able to cheese your way through earlier open races by just adding more horsepower but at some point you'll have to actually know some semblance of racing theory to stay competitive in later races.

The license tests teach you this and are the definition of a skill gate.

For a game that is 10/10 GOTYAY super comfy, it is the complete opposite of comfy that I'm expected to cheese it and actually lose the race. A lot of other games around that time did this thing where to get 100% completion you need to beat every combination of mode, track and ship like Wipeout 3 or I believe Ace Combat 3 as well. It's probably the easiest of Sega's arcade driving games to get a clear in.
Play the Genesis version, it's an okay port and it's fairly easy.
Don't crash more than once ever and you'll reach an ending almost every time (because OutRun's difficulty is like 90% the maddeningly painful traffic, I've had some absolute bullshit happen to me in the arcade version, the Genesis version can't and won't put as much shit on screen)

But aside from that the best version is actually the fixed up version exclusive in NTSC-J called Outrun 2 SP (yes, named after the older arcade cab) released in a very late 2007. Take wipeout for example it allows you to hold perfect lines whilst separately pitching the nose with the dpad, all the best times in ridge racers are done with it also and good luck holding lines aswell with a dpad. The fact they named it after the original arcade cabinet is purely vanity. You cannot translate "Coast 2 Coast" to Japanese. C2C was never released in Japan. Outrun 2 SP for PS2 in Japan has everything C2C has (it's the same game) except a number of things were fixed and PSP connectivity was retired.

Power Drift, a game where you neither race powerful cars nor drift. But it is comfy if you set the difficulty in the Saturn version to "easy" (it still isn't that easy).

Other than the original, Cannonball, and the 3DS port which are all perfect. I'm talking about the sequels and home console ports that are all pretty different.

90% of turns in SMGP are to be taken at full speed. You only need to break on hairpins. The atcual Monaco track is a piece of shit but by that time you're already so far ahead in the standings it won't matter. Canada is kinda shit too.

Hover Racing on PS1 is my go-to comfy racing game. It's tough to get into at first but once you master the control's its incredibly satisfying to play.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=upKkMGGm8yU

It's a Net Yaroze game so it was developed by an independent Japanese developer and never saw a commercial release. However, the game did get released as a "demo" on Playstation Underground volume 2.2 (even though it's called a demo the full game is in there).
