How do we stop hipsters and people who didn't grow up with retro games from collecting and buying up what we TRUE collectors are needing for a decent price?

>> No.3980718

Why not tho

Pepe and the ok sign are nazi now

Old games could be made into a pedo thing

An angle to work in could be the colourfullness and simplicity of older games. A paedo feels like a child himself in some ways and is drawn to these

That and the whole "hey kid you wanna play super nintendo with uncle"

Be on the lookout for and screencap a couple of those posts where retro game nerds talk about how they love to watch their kids/nieces/nephews play the games

this is entirely doable

And thus no one would want to be cause SELLING games anymore than collecting them, and the shit will end up in the landfill.

We need to come together and figure out a plan on how to end this "retro gaming culture" before it spins too much out of control. But maybe it's just too late and emulation is our only friend.

Unlikely, but it might push buyers away, making sellers more desperate with their pricing, at least marginally.

I just think it would be funny. We should try to do it. Shouldn't be too hard

I met a guy at a thrift store today who noticed that I came in from time to time. He was trying to sell me games from his collection. I quickly realized he knew jack shit about video games. Even clueless about playstation games because to him they were always on the shelf and had no value. He was really pushing me hard to buy nes consoles to. This guy just hoards everything sega and nintendo and knows jack shit about it.

For about 3 minutes he was telling me how he bought up a ton of legos because he saw some guy buying them up over time. Now he was stuck with a huge box full of them and wanted to know if someone I knew would buy them. I really wanted to punch the guy in the neck.

why is that a requirement to buy retro vidya? are you only allowed to enjoy retro vidya through nostalgia? shouldn't the people who haven't had a chance to play them have a chance now? if you grew up with them then you'd still have them, unless your some normie who sold them/gave them away.

It's a complete non-issue.

If you are actually old enough to have bought this stuff new then it's not a problem. The only people affected by the rise in prices are those still actively buying and it's their fault for missing the boat in the first place.

If you're collecting old games in 2017, you are now a collector of old things and part of what that comes with is the prices of collector's items. Anyone who complains about it doesn't understand basic economics and shouldn't be worrying about video games in the first place.

This reminds me of the retards in the 90s who would buy all the 1# variant covers shat out by image and marvel as a financial investment. HAhaha.

>> No.3981054

I've stopped buying old games. The new rule is I have to get rid of something before I get something new. Otherwise things would just take up too much space.

I have a few things I consider to be 100% off the market that I'll never sell. The rest, including some extreme rarities, I'll let go once I'm done with them.

Collecting for the sake of collecting is terrible. First game I'm going to let go is absolutely Xenogears... That game is a massive peice of shit.

Anything mass produced has no collector value.

That's how I view it.

Obviously, people disagree with me. Mostly because people crave a "complete" set for arbitrary reasons.

When at least 75% of teh library is total garbage, going for a complete set is retarded.

This - and the same people complaining about the current price of 20th century console games will turn right around and disdain collecting games that haven't become hip to collect yet like PC games and 6th gen games. Then the very moment that the prices on them start significantly ballooning they'll complain about them too.

You're not wrong. I was just running with an idea.

That's prob even more in the realm of possibility, what with the idea of gaming unironically being a slippery slope(someone post that picture!) to far right philosophy gaining more traction with 'woke' normies

Just gotta finagle it so that retro games specifically are a fuckin"dogwhistle" to secret nazi cells or something

This whole conversation has just made me unhappy. I need my safespace. I'm gonna go play vidya

>Anything mass produced has no collector value.

You're clearly not a collector then. Which is fine. Probably for the best. But those people exist and it's why variant covers and that stuff get made.

>>3981063
They want to collect and they want to be special snowflakes for wanting to collect games. Getting both prestige for having a big collection, but also not having to spend money or work for it.

They're just posers.

While you both are right I can kinda see how this is annoying if you find out about a game you never heard of before and wanna get it only to find out it goes for an absurd price. That being said there's so many ways to play video games it's hardly an issue unless you REALLY wanna own a copy for some reason.

Kek.

We need to somehow craft the meme that retro gaming (as opposed to PS4 gaming or Iphone gaming) is creepy virgin territory and that having a large collection on display will repulse females of all ages.

It works for Dungeons and Dragons. The low social status of this hobby serves as an effective normie filter. The more astute members of this community understand and are grateful for this.

It shouldn't be too difficult to achieve this.

Consider that jewish pornographers in the 70s invented the BBC meme which people still believe decade later.

How many generations now have people believed that mice love cheese, when in real life tests rodents ignore cheese in favor of grains every time and throughout eons of evolution dairy has never been a part of their diet?

So you'll go to vast lengths to try and change the overall view of the things you care about in the hopes of being able to get them a little cheaper. But you won't simply budget your money or do meaningful work to make some more? That's legitimate retardation right there.

As for mice and cheese, it's mostly for trap baiting where this came from. The reason being that things like cheese and peanut butter have volatile oils which give them a much stronger odor to attract mice more readily.

This is the worst human being in the hobby. He is the ultimate collectard who hoards games but doesn't even play them. He doesn't know what he has half the time and his guests have to explain basic facts to him. He focuses exclusively on rarity and value over gameplay. Everyone I know who plays tabletop is a fucking deep level nerd, maybe it doesn't seem like that in context with your circle of friends lol but it's definitely still a seriously niche thing. Not being "normie" in this case doesn't mean the absolute extreme where people are completely nuts/socially incapable.

Either way old videogames becoming any more fashionable than they are would suck and you know it.

It's not that they're not typically nerdy, but I remember the days of gaming clubs in the 80's and 90's where literally everyone who went there looked like they fell out of American Movie. Those guys still go, but there's also a healthy mix of people who at least appear pretty normal on the surface.

>Either way old videogames becoming any more fashionable than they are would suck and you know it.

I actually powerfully disagree with this. I love that there are younger people now into old games. But also I am largely done with collecting. Only keep around a few things I like and emulate most of the time when actually playing.

All that said, I don't think watching kids cry about how they can't get everything they want for cheap will ever stop being funny.
