What's the deal on these statues? Why are they in the beginning of every dungeon? What was the original purpose of these dungeons before the trifroce pieces were sent there?

I just love how enigmatic this game is.

The "temples" were built by the powerful and wise ancient Hyrulians, when the primitive Hyrulians of the present found them, they worshipped their creators as gods, and named their creations as places worthy of worship

It can be a place that is regarded as holy and/or sacred. Not necessarily intended for the purpose of worship like a church or temple.

>> No.397820

神殿 (shinden), by the kanji themselves, means "god's palace". The meaning is more simply like "holy place". Temple is the best translation I can think of (as a Japanese translator) because temple can mean a place where god/a god lives, not necessarily a place of worship

No as a kid, I ran through small forest like sections and mountainous parts in larger sections of the city blocks, which are actually fairly large for being smack dab in the middle of a city. Perimeter about .3 miles. Not gigantic, but nice enough for neighborhood kids. Some kids lived near the main woods, which is fucking huge, having a perimeter about 15 miles long and a few close patches with ~5 miles of perimeter as well. They could explore caves, ponds and reservoir if you didn't mind getting into trouble and even an old historical dungeon. But that was a 3 mile hike to get there for me. Also, plenty of wild animals and ticks and shit I didn't have to deal with in my own area aside from the rare possum, skunk, dog or racoon.

In 20 years, when valve is broke, you can't log into steam and download those games you want to play.

GoG? stuff like that? They're the cure for this industry (sort of). DRM = every game is an mmo, and you can only play it when we say you can. Good luck firing up assassin's creed 10 years from now, ubisoft.

You reinstalling a game you've already bought doesn't make the publisher any more money. If you can't install that game, why not just buy the latest version?

I grew up in a city dating back 4000 years. By the time the Greeks showed up, there was already an Etruscan settlement. The Etruscans were ousted around 900BCE and the Greeks took control but they themselves were also ousted around 100BCE when the Romans were like "nope!"
Anyway, we have catacomb/labrynth entrances and caves all around the city proper as well as the "old city" which the modern city was built directly upon. The old city is about 30 metres beneath the modern (that's about 100 feet for Americans). Even the name of part of the old city sounds like it could be the name of an area in a Zelda game. Its name translates as "the fields of fire" or "burning fields" because it's a geothermally active area of the old city that connects to a fucking volcano.
They accidentally connected part of the tunnels for the metro to parts of the catacombs, labrynth and old city. Because of political corruption and general laziness, the connections were never blocked/resealed and are still accessible if you go down into the metro tunnels on foot. When I was a kid, my friends and I would sneak into the metro tunnels with a high-powered torch and really big knives to explore them and the connecting ancient stuffs. I wish I could say we also brought a magic shield and a book that made our our magic rod's beams result in fire, but alas: no.

The only thing that really sucks about our history is that our prince is a reality TV star because royalty means fuck all to our culture. He had a tv show in the 90s that the American show 'Punked' (with Ashton Kutcher) was based on.

> GoG
> cure

The developers get nothing from the sales that GoG does; and literally all they fucking do is use other peoples' work like dos box. They don't even try to fix any game crash bugs, or give you every version of the game, or fucking anything. Remember the original XCOM? How it was riddled with fucking bugs like difficulty level resets on save/load? Someone sat down and spent time taking that shit apart, fixing it, and updating it; they called it XcomUtil and it was a fanmade masterpiece of love. GoG doesn't do ANY of that shit, they just do what the "pirates" do but: 1. Do it legally by obtaining copy licenses and 2. Do it for a direct profit.

Anyone who makes selling old games that can't even run without emulation, and doesn't bother updating or fixing them in any way, is just another form of terminal cancer in the games industry.

Ten.
Five.
Two.

Once the servers are down, they're down. How long doesn't matter. DRM is basically the death of the industry, and the antithesis of this board. It's about enjoying games from 'long ago' that still work.

Diablo I isn't supported on battle.net anymore, but you can still install it. You can play LAN if you can get it working.
When Diablo III isn't supported anymore, you can't install it. Not even for just you. There will be no game.

There is a functional cutoff point where DRM began being heavily introduced and a new historical strata begins. And there will be no 'fossil record' after this point because it will erase itself. There will be no more 'Good Old Games' because there will be no server to connect to.
You sound a little young for this board, to be honest, but I won't tell

>guy complaining about DRM because it won't be supported in some future time unknown

Many games from 10-15 years ago already won't run on current PC platforms without emulating older versions of windows or downloading patches from their developers. And many of those developers aren't supporting those older games anyway. Hell, games like Sim City 4 had trouble running on PCs upwards of 2-3 years after it came out.

DRM and DLC have plenty of issues. But focusing on them not being supported is not the way you should be arguing. Actual physical releases of PC games also need to be supported with advancements in hardware. And 9 times out of 10, they aren't.

I know what you're talking about. But there has still been plenty of physical media out there. If anything, there's more physical copies of PC games in stores now then there was a few years ago.

And for all your bitching about all games disappearing once Steam is gone, you know 99% of it will just appear on torrent sites and retro download sites. Just like most of the older games (that have physical copies) are now easily downloaded online today.

Once again, you did not even understand my point. DRM and DLC are a problem. But not for the reason you are arguing.

It is possible that the raven-like statue found all over the Shadow Temple symbolizes the dungeon's patron deity. This statue is never mentioned, but it is seen quite often throughout the temple. This raven-like being could very well be a god or goddess to the Sheikah, though neither Sheik nor Impa ever mention a patron deity of the Shadow Folk. Additionally, all of the other adult dungeons seem to have their own representations. Another fact supporting this theory is that this statue is present in the Bottom of the Well, another area that has been linked with the Sheikah.

Just a theory from Zeldapedia...
