I had one of those and I always hated it. My favorite has always been plugging a PS1 or PS2 controller in, other than when I modded 2 SNES pads to plug into my printer port.

The 360 is the best gamepad ever made. If it only had a decent d-pad, it would have been completely perfect.

I have a tomee usb SNES pad which I use in my bedroom on the Recalbox, and I have an xbox360 pad for everything else.
I don't like the xbox's dpad, but the analog works just like a joystick, so very precise, sometimes more than the dpad on the snes knockoff.

I really like this one,but I never know what game I can use this to play.

I'm sure there's better options out there, but I personally use the DualShock 4.

My logic is since I emulate a lot of games but also play new ones I might as well use one that has enough buttons for all the games I play, and is the same layout as what I'd use for PS1 and other Sony systems.

Two of these puppies and a DS3 (never use it in Bluetooth mode, I prefer wired shit).

Most retro games: SNES
Street fighter: N64 with a usb adapter [the n64 pad has the biggest Dpad of all the Nintendo controllers anf 6 facebuttons. also dat grip]
Modern games: Wii U Pro gamepad connected via Bluetooth and Wiinusoft

(soon wiinusoft supports the switch pro, than that will be my go to modern controller)

Me too. Sadly the imitation cheap ones don't compare to me, only the authentic ones feel right. So I am jealous you have so many of the authentic USB ones (in great colors), as those and the PS2 ones are out of my price range now.

Well since we are on this topic can anyone help me find if this saturn controllers are legit? My friend said he received them as part of a payment and now he wants it to sell to me. I tried to look around for this color scheme but all I found were cheap knock-offs, so I'm not sure if I should get them or not.

MS's Pre xbox gamepads, joysticks and similar stuff is so forgotten but so damn interesting, they always have such odd designs.

For me only the official Sega Saturn pads will do.

However, I do like the Ascii Pad FT(DC)/FT2(PS2) for keeping the XYZ buttons the same size as the ABC buttons. Its D-pad is a lot more loose than my liking though.

Also the official Genesis 6 button pads are pretty good since they share the same design concepts of a Saturn pad, minus the shoulder buttons. For 3rd party, a Hyperkin GN6 controller being a pretty good imitation of Genesis 6-button controllers, but be wary of the many cheap fakes known as the "fighting putt" which are by far the worst controllers I have ever touched (a lot of youtube ecelebs show the fighting putt as if it were a real 6-button pad, you can tell with the XYZ sticking far out instead of being convex).

The Nubytech Street Fighter 15th Anniversary PS2 controllers are nice. However, I found that they did push the D-pad closer to the left edge to make room for the lenticular artwork in the center, which ruins a bit of functionality to me.

Be sure to find a nice lagless PS2 to USB adapter.

I will have to concur with >>3962408 as I have not seen official Saturn pads with that color scheme. However it is possible someone may have opened a couple up and swapped parts (like the start button), as I have seen a white Saturn pad replaced with the XYZ, ABC, and LR buttons from a grey Saturn pad and I thought it looked pretty good. Yet, I don't like the concept of sacrificing a legitimate Saturn controller.

The fakes I see on amazon and eBay are not good to my hands. They feel lighter, and plastic somewhat cheaper, worst off, I do not think the contact pads conduct the signals well. Sad thing is I think the modern dead Sega used those cheap USB controllers for their official "Play Sega" web browser games site.

Yeah the Hyperkin GN6 controllers are pretty close to the real Genesis controllers. A bit lighter, untextured D-pad plastic, the silicone pads cannot be swapped with a real one since they shredded every bit they possibly can to save on cost (may account for the inputs not being perfect) instead of leaving some slack for the membranes to spring back. You will miss out on a left and right bumper buttons, useful for mapping something like insert coin to L or the L&R of Super Nintendo games. I like mapping the YZBC buttons to the diamond configuration of ABXY.

That's the Play Sega controller I was referring to, yes. It is of similar make as the cheap (not good) retrolink Saturn imitation pads, which is not anywhere near the quality of legit Saturn controllers. As for the This Is Cool pads, they are just "clear controller" to match a special run of Sega Saturns with a clear shell, I think they may have increased in price, and aren't really worth it, as they are just as functional as a real controller but with a cool look.

I know it wasn't really that great but I will always have fond nostalgia for the Gravis Gamepad. I wish they'd make a USB version of it with higher quality materials.

Only stopped using it when computers started coming without gameport standard.

Yeah but that was basically a knockoff PS1 controller with the Gravis coloring. I'll never have the same nostalgia for it as I did for the original.

I don't have that model specifically, but from my experience, iBuffalo controllers have some pretty solid d-pads.
I use a BSGP801, modelled after the SNES controller, and it's great for platformers and the like.
