The only time you see her in casual clothes were in flashbacks from a decade before the game. This is how she looks during the main story, possessed or not.

there might be symbolism or something there, but I don't think it's supposed to be literal. SE have a lot of lookalike characters anyway. Lightning is basically female Cloud. Yuna looks somewhat like Rinoa also, to me at least.
