I'm in the mood for playing some retro games.

Would it be better to put a second TV in my room (a CRT TV) or just get a Raspberry Pi and connect it to my LCD TV?

Best to play on a crt. Go to mc daniels and buy a couple macs and some niggets. Sit down and enjoy ur vidya. Like these, if played on the GC they can be really fun

>> No.3948604

Where did you even get the idea to get a Raspberry Pi?

>> No.3948612

>>3948548

Why not get some kind of emulator of your choice, be it a computer, pi, wii, whatever, and then hook it up to a crt?

If playing on an LCD doesn't bother you then don't go buy a new TV just to make /vr/ happy. But if you prefer the /aesthetic/ of a CRT then get you one.

I prefer the aesthetic of a CRT. I'm just not sure if I should take up space in my room by having a second TV. I wouldn't need to buy one. My dad has a CRT that he doesn't use so I could get it from him.

Or I could just use my LCD TV which seems more convenient. But input lag worries me.

Because it's another way to play retro vidya? I don't get what the big deal is.

There's nothing a Pi or other ARM device can do for retro games that a real x86 based PC can't do leagues better.

>> No.3948758

>>3948739
That may be true, but don't act like it isn't still a good way to emulate. And the gameboy Pi's are pretty fuckin neat. Also, you can run Retropie on an x86 based PC.

>> No.3949097

>>3948743
Pi isn't $30. With all the extra stuff you need you end up over $100 for which you can nearly build a full fledged PC.
If you want a budget solution, get some cables to connect your computer to the TV.
Being small and light is pointless.

its a meme to hate the pi on /v/ and its leaking into /vr/

>pi isn't $30

Yeah, it totally is. If you have to buy a micro usb power supply, an SD card, cabling, and USB controllers then yeah you're going to spend more, but what halfway geeky person doesn't have all that shit lying around to begin with?

>being small and light is pointless

I actually kinda feel bad for you dude, that you can't conceive of the idea that some people have friends and leave their apartments. I take my pi over to people's houses all the time and the ability to literally take it out of my pocket and hook it up to any hdmi capable TV blows people's minds. Like every normie I know wants one as soon as they see it.

>> No.3949126

>>3949116
You could just get a Compute Stick clone with sleeker design and more functions.
I guess I really miss out on retarded friends.

>but what halfway geeky person doesn't have all that shit lying around to begin with?
In that case you already have parts for a whole computer lying around.

>> No.3949150

>>3949126

I don't think you're getting it. I have several computers too. Forget it, keep hating stuff I guess and I'll keep having fun with what I like.

>> No.3949202

I've never had a problem with it. Have you actually tried it? GBA games display really nicely from my Wii at 240p. In order to not fuck up pixels it has to display in a box (ala GBP) but if your TV has any halfway decent aspect ratio options you should be fine.

>>3949150

For real though, although /vr/ does have a somewhat odd hateboner for the Pi as you can see, it can be a bit of a headache to use with CRTs. You need to buy a third party signal converter to get anything other than composite and potentially more converters to connect your controller of choice, it's definitely getting better but there's no possible set-up you can use to completely escape input lag.

you can find CRT tvs for so cheap anywhere. i found mine for free and got a switcher and have a few consoles hooked up to it. honestly the most fun way to play the classics. SNES is my personal favorite.

It isn't though. The input lag alone is a deal breaker , couple that with no 240p output, and rubbish performance and you'd have to be nuts to think they're any good. You want cheap? get a wii and mod the cunt for free.

Can't you somehow configure the emulator to output at a certain resolution so that it doesn't lag?
