After reading these e-celeb threads I'm aware I'm very pleb when it comes to e-celeb knowledge.
I only ever knew about AVGN and liked it back in 2004/2005 but I never really kept up with him, only occasionally for some big episodes like Castlevania or SNES vs Genesis.
Then I know about Mike because of his shitposting on 4chan which probably goes back to 2012 or so. Actually, I remember watching the Miney Crafta video, someone posted it and I was like "meh, what a retarded guy", didn't knew he was related to AVGN.
Then I know about Game Grumps because of /v/. It's a very clever format for a vidya letsplay, I like its simplicity, no face shots, no editing constantly or at all, etc. Only thing is, the host is a retard and his sidekicks aren't as bad as him but still meh. Jontron is from there I know about all the drama also thanks to /v/.
Then I know about Game Sack from /vr/, really boring, repetitive show, I don't like it but whatever.

I finally watched the AVGN movie few nights ago for the first time and it was kinda shit. I love his show, but it just doesn't work on big screen. The whole charm of the AVGN is the home made feeling, especially in the early episodes when they were filmed his whole apartment and not just in the basement. The shitty quality just shines too bright on the big screen. I like b-movies, but this is not even a b-movie, it's one big internet show episode on big screen.

It wasn't the worst movie I had ever seen, it was just very underwhelming. I also expected the cameos to be more clever like having the Nostalgia Critic appear as one of the festival guests like Keith Apicary, but most of the cameos were just filmed as separate clips and then just shoehorned in as filler.
The whole movie was like one expensive meh-tier AVGN episode. It would had been better if the whole movie really was just a one big review of some game series or something. The Sega CD and 32x episodes and/or the whole CD-i - 3DO series would had made a great movie because there is just so much comedy potential.

Also, the movie was like 2 goddamn hours long. That is way too long, especially when we get to learn nothing new about AVGN. Not that I really cared to know AVGN character's past, but c'mon now, two hours of James making his observational comedy? Too long.

I don't like channel Awesome, that site seems like a garbage fire, but LordKat seems like that guy that cannot deal with bad entertainment getting popular. He takes his hatred for CA and directs towards his fans and kind of holds them guilty for the "popularity" of CA, like the overlap between his fandom and CA's in 1:1. He's even made a joke about not putting the effort into his own work because shit will get popular anyway, but his attitude around that "joke" convinces me that's how he really behaves and really believes. I get the feeling he's still bitter about the Spoony incident and hasn't moved on from when he lost out on his biggest chance to move beyond being a loser with a webcam and be an official critic (how that would have played out if he grabbed that opportunity is anyone's guess).

If you need some background noise I recommend some of GDC's talks. They've got some very respectable developers giving some radicool insight on their games.

They've also got some not-so-respectable devs like the ones from No man's sky and Gone homo on-stage too so if you want to see just how unprofessional someone can get, I recommend watching those too.

Most are trash. I've been listening to Derek and Don (Retro RPG Podcast) since they started and that's about it. They're god awful and never upload or even talk about the fucking games. Great show, always looking forward to the next one. Don't download any of the "Is It Worth It?" episodes by the other guy, those are by a different dude and are even worse.
