If a less expensive game I own is absolutely trashed, covered in gunk and marker and all that, I buff it out. There's practically zero damage to the cart and it winds up looking better. If it's more expensive, I let it be. Rental stickers are off-limits though, I think they're cool.

Then again, I have experience modding shit and using the tools involved, so when he says "I cut a piece out of this and stuck it on here," I see what he did and how he did it. If you're not familiar with that, then I can understand how that information seems lacking.

It depends very much on the retro game and on the LCD. Most LCDs aren't good enough -- not even close.

By the way, how good are plasma TVs compared to LCDs in terms of lag, etc.? They are rapidly dropping in price. I used to play the PSX many years ago on an old plasma and thought it was all right, but then I wasn't a snob back then.

I am not sure what you mean. Most LCD TVs are pretty crappy, which is a fact that modern games are built to work around but old games aren't. You can get used to the flaws and still manage to enjoy your old games, but they're still objectively there:
1. You can't play lightgun games on them.
2. The lag. The really shit TVs take up to 100 ms process and display a picture. That's 6 (six) frames. Good luck trying to play Um Jammer Lammy or fighting games. The average one lags by 2-3 frames, and that's over HDMI. Using an analog input adds to it.
If you mean "there nothing wrong with an LCD if you buy the right one (a low-lag TV or if you're really autistic a display made for digital signage) and use a dedicated upscaler to connect your consoles to it", then I'm with you.
