Ended up playing this after all. It's a pain it's not translated, but it has no kanji in-game so it's at least manageable about what to do in battle and get the basic NPC dialogue.
I kinda like it, has that old-school rpg toughness to it, and I like the card-like presentation of it.
Rufiia is fucking cute too, but was surprised she didn't start with stock spells or something.
