I have a friend in Japan who I had go to the event on my behalf. He purchased Homosexual and Alphabetical Orgasm for me and even got them signed. These books have not been scanned or uploaded online yet, but it is my intention to do so when they arrive and share sometime after his show has ended. Another friend and I have been sinking a fair amount of our own money into archiving Sato's lost works, but now I run a GoFundMe for this sorta thing.

My friend went to the first live show of Sato, a live writing/improve session with Sato and an author. Despite not really being too big into electronic music and this sorta thing, he really enjoyed and appreciated it.
I had him talk to Sato about how he has international fans, he seemed pleasantly shocked. He described Sato as being kinda shy but also having a good sense of humor.
Believe me I also had him ask about buying lost media like Roly-Polys and his Video CD (which is in that massive display case, unlike Roly-Polys).
He also went towards the end of the improve show where they had that one fellow from METAFIVE there (don’t recall his name.)
He said there was always a lot of people attending the event, the improv with the METAFIVE member was absolutely packed.

When he realised I could speak Japanese and was a fan, I think he was worried I was going to bother him about releasing rare shit - it seems a lot of people do this via his facebook/email. I just bought the CD and his new book and he signed them for me. He also had an after party he invited me to, but I had shit to do. He also asked me to check his English as he translated some stuff for the show. Nice enough guy, but slightly egotistical, as you'd expect.

Thats kinda what you have to do as an artist. You sell yourself. You set up a gallery about your art and its all about you and your statement and bla bla bla. Very ego-driven career and you live off of past accomplishments. You throw parties for yourself so other people will think you are hot stuff and buy your art. I still love Osamu Sato and he is one of the less egotistical artists.

Can someone explain to me what's the big deal with Sato? I've played LSD and I like it, but mostly on the concept alone. It's a very basic and amateurish game. I have no experience with the rest of his work. Everyone here seems to treat him like a god or something. Redpill me.

I think it's just his art and works are a fine example of mid to late 90s aesthetic - I relate a lot of it to the rave imagery in the early 90s and it feels nostalgic yet interesting to me. LSD and his music, as well as at least seeing what Eastern Mind/Chu-Teng go for visually, make him interesting as an artist.

There's the lost media nuts that go looking for his obscurities, the 'obscure games' fans who go looking for out-there games from certain eras for new experiences....Sato brings a nice little community of computer art fans together.

Game design? You might be thinking of The Art of Computer Designing, which is basically a tutorial of sorts on how to make digital art in his style. There are a lot of things he probably still has, he admitted to owning some of his old hard drives and has personal copies of all his games. Sato has recently expressed interest in a LSD sequel, when Figglewatts was developing a revamped version he took notice and told his FB folllowers "It's not made with my permission, but I can help him make LSD2."

Too bad Figglewatts is usually very busy and can't find time in his schedule to continue working on Revamped.

I should keep a dream journal... although I dont sleep much these days. But yes Sato's work on the PS1 was just the beginning and very primitive in its interactions and art. LSD could easily be turned into a fully immersive VR /vr/ drug. death. online environment. BUT would you want to be responsible for creating a VR happy killing machine? I felt it could have been stronger on the realistic death visuals. Find someone to love and hold you and comfort you. Dont die alone. but yes now I need get myself a journal it is a godsend when you start losing your memories. Dont forget your memories they are all you have in the end. GOD dammit captchas are broken bullshit fuck jewgle have to refresh the page 5 times. Sato does create nice art tho that touched on depression and loneliness in a bright colorful way.
