I think patreon is a okay thing.

The problem is tubers invariably reduce kahnetnt once they make a patreon and it starts earning them a decent amount.

Before they would have to make 4 videos a week to earn, say 30k a year. Then they make a patreon and start raking in say, 12-15k a year and they think "well, im just gonna do 2 vids a week now". But their patreon doesnt go down in response.

I guess that is the nature of crowdfunding and monthly payments or whatever. That is how patreon works, right, where you donate an amount on a set period basis? I'd say that for most people with a credit card, a monthly $2-5 charge is easily forgotten or just accepted, so if you get a few thousand people donating that amount per month, you're probably guaranteed to maintain that unless you really fuck something up. Even if you drastically cut content, chances are most people aren't going to go out of their way to drop a few dollar a month amount to make a point to the recipient. You might lose bigger donors, though. I think the biggest risk is not delivering on higher reward tiers.

Kyle has very rarely done "special" themes. I think the only ones he did were like in the first 2-3 years, and James has always paid out to other people for themes. Well, I think they just lost a decent portion of the under-21 market who was actively interested in the project. I'm personally interested in the game on its own, but, for better or worse, I can guarantee that a lot of younger gamers would've bought it just because of JonTron and his inevitable advertising on his channel for the game.

Hell, "yooka laylee jontron" is near the top of Google's search suggestions for "yooka laylee." Pretty poor business decision on Playtonic's part, since the people who would've bitched and moaned would've been people with no interest in buying the game to begin with.

I love how Yooka-Laylee is refusing to refund Kickstarters that are upset Jon was booted. This game is looking like a real shit show. I was reading both Jon and Playtonics tweeted basically wishing the other "good luck". My friends and I had 3 different N64's boasting an impressive total of 16 N64 controllers between the 3 of us. Every other week we would get together and play n64 games on the weekend and have a genuinely good time. Of those 16 controllers 3 of them worked perfectly.
