The Amiga one is easily the worst Castlevania ever made, the controls are untested, it seems like the devs didn't really knew what they were doing.

Which kinda bothers me since I like Novotrade (guys who did Ecoo), apparently amiga castlevania was coded by them.

Almost agreed. Shattered Soldier is great too, maybe better. It's structured very similarly to HC in that it mostly just ferries you from setpiece to setpiece as opposed to having lengthy traditional levels, and it gives you multiple weapons to switch between. I strongly recommend it to anyone who likes HC, just be aware that unlike HC, it's hardcore.

All kidding aside and to be fair, Capcom in most cases just couldn't into 16-bit sound drivers on either console.
Great compositions, but not up to snuff to what they did in the previous generation and at the arcade. Konami was much better at getting what was needed from both systems at the time.
Case in point:

Street Fighter 2 Arcade:

>Wily Wars on Mega Drive already has more slowdowns than MMX on SNES ever did.
Play it on an OC'd Mega Drive, the slowdowns are practically non-existent.

Anyway, that wasn't a case of the hardware holding the game back, it was because Minakuchi E. were rubbish programmers who didn't properly utilise the adequate MD hardware.

Ninja Gaiden Trilogy on the SNES wasn't such hot stuff either, not because the hardware couldn't handle it, just an inadequate port.

My reply to australia was more because of all the excuses he comes up with in order to mantain his anti-nintendo agenda.
If Megaman on MD has slowdowns it's "the dev's fault", but if MMX has some slowdown here and there, "the snes' hardware is helding the game back".

Big fan of the first three X games.
I have a Saturn and I can burn CD-Rs for it, should I give X4 a go? How is the Saturn version compared to PS1 version? (I have a modchipped PS2 I can use as well)

>> No.3906854

>>3906842
saturn version uses a lot of dithered transparencies, controls are built more for the 4 button layout, but you can change all the binds so it works more naturally (i use the right shoulder buttons for dash, and Z/C for change weapon.)

I rather like dithered transparencies, they look really nice although I understand some people prefer polygonal transparencies. That's honestly the only real difference I can think of between versions.

>> No.3906858

>>3906836
MMX is a system exclusive, not a lousy outsourced port of an 8-bit game so the same rules don't really apply.
The reason MMX and many games lagged so on the SNES is because it had an underpowered CPU (Ricoh 5A22 3.58 MHz), which was slower than even the fucking Atari Lynx.
I'm not saying MMX would have been a better game on the Genesis, it certainly wouldn't have been as colourful or controlled as well with the more limited button input (controller comfortability debates aside) and I shudder to think how early 16-bit era Capcom would have slaughtered their compositions on the much harder to master Yamaha YM2612. But the Genesis did have a Motorola 68000 7.6 MHz with a Zilog Z80 3.58 MHz backing it up, resulting in faster games which hardly had any slow down at all unless lousily programmed.

>> No.3906868

>>3906858
Yeah yeah I know about the SNES' CPU. BLAST PROCESSING, BLAZE PROCESSING, yadda yadda.
I'm just saying, Australia-kun's double standards are funny, he shits on any game that's on Nintendo systems no matter what.
Any other game on any other system may get a free pass, no matter how many flaws it has, he will find a way to excuse it, but if it's on Nintendo, there's no question: it's shit. That's the Australia-kun philosophy.

>Well seeing as how X2 and X3 had on board extra hardware, no, no it didn't.
Are you implying that because they shoved a co-processor on there, that the SNES did not hold the games back hardware-wise?
Because that's exactly the opposite of the point you're trying to make...

Also, the SNES absolutely does hold those games back, as they can't hold a consistent framerate to save their fucking life. In places without the wireframe shit.
