Random question, never actually played Monster Rancher games before, and I recently set up my old PS2 to play it and PS1 games on a CRT, so I'm looking for games I missed.

MR2 is the best one. It improved on everything in the first game.

The first game is still good and you can transfer most of your monsters into MR2 right away. Some monsters like golems, dragons, worms, hengers etc have to be unlocked by doing stuff in the game like winning a tournament or renovating your stable.

Also using MR1's disc while playing MR2 gets you a Sueki Suezo. It has perfect defensive stats, but dies after 1 week so it's good for entering the Heels Cup to get an item you can sell for 5000 gold.

What game was this from?

Pixies usually end up my best monsters, especially as subclasses. I cleared Monster Rancher 2 with a first gen Wracky/Pixie and they've also helped me immensely in 4, though my favorite in Evo will always be Piroro.

No, the plot of Digimon is largely the same in Japan (minus the romance shit). The Japanese version is actually a very fun series with great character development which the dub ignored.

What the dub did was punch up the script so the characters spew out tons of puns and running jokes non-stop, to the point of being cringe if you view it without nostalgia goggles.

Started playing MR2 Advance. Created a raptor looking monster , mainly trained strength and accuracy. Learn hero kick which 999 most monsters.fight the Phoenix boss. Hero kick! Phoenix tries to counter ,fails. KO itself in one hit.

I tried MR2 becuase of this thread. It's pretty fun but why does t always seem like my monster dies as soon as it's getting strong, then I need to start all over again.

Stress needs to be handled preemptively, if you are told your thing is tired or stressed it is already too late and you have lose extra lifespan. You also need to use nuts oils and mint leaves constantly, as resting is essentially throwing away a week of your monsters life. Feeding your monsters tablet also helps and is the best food even if your monster hates it.

Another thing that isn't obvious is that battling, win or lose reduces your monsters lifespan more than training. If you are low on money you need to plan out what battles you should do ie only choose ones that also give you a valuable item you can sell for additional money.

Errantry is another thing that tanks your monsters lifespan in mr2 these are bugged to reduce your monsters life about x4 than they normally should, it is better to do those in your monsters very early lifespan when they have very low stat gains and you won't be losing as much.

Most of this could be irrelevant if you are using a low lifespan monster. Some just live longer, Ape and Color Pandora don't have any requirements and are long lived types you could use to unlock other monsters.

it's actually only twice as much because of the duplicated fatigue/stress check. IIRC you have to send them out at the start of the month to avoid missing a feeding and making the situation even worse.

For an example I just started up a new game and raised this guy, Theo is a Kato that has had exactly 1 week of rest and is only fed tablets, on the very first week I had an errantry coupon so I did the HIT errantry until he learned Twister Claw which is his best move.

With nuts oil/leaves he costs 1300ish G a month, at 3 years I have spent 46800ish on him so far but I have gained twice that by selectively choosing what tournaments to fight. At E and D and C rank tournaments you only fight if they give disc chips or Gemini's pot/Artemis sculpture/Crab's Claw. After you get tough enough for B can try the PAPA's cup's which gives gold and silver ignots in the summer/autumn, these two tournaments by themselves earn you a profit and you can just train the rest of the time for huge stat boosts.

Managed to make it in, even with a Kato's huge lifespan the constant battling has wreaked havoc on his life expectancy. But at least he lived long enough to get frozen.

After unlocking a bunch of monsters I was down to my last 80k, decided to raise a durahan.

Instead of battling in the early years just used my saved money to train until he stopped getting good gains or I needed to fight, when he started battling he had exactly 1 spd.

He likely got me over 350k with all the tournament gold/silver/platinum/silver peaches
