Hell yer. Pretty sure this was one of my first three games I ever played. Along with NBA JAM and some power ranger game on the SEGA. Can't remember which one exactly.

I could only beat the 2nd level at the time but I loved playing it. I used to watch my dad play the final level as Atreides. He could never beat it though. My first time with RTS and I loved it.

DOS game I play the most is X-COM Apocalypse. Been getting interested in the Heroes of Might and Magic games recently too.

>>3882082
Isn't Syndicate like a real time squad based shooter or something? I've been enjoying X-COM Apocalypse in real time recently and more of that would be great.

Yes it's real time squad based cyberpunk shooter, although you could finish most of the game with just 1 person. It's really not similar to the X-COM franchise.

Lightspeed/Hyperspeed were pretty awesome space exploration games for DOS.

The first few X-COM games are turn based strategy games. But Apocalypse also has a real time mode.

This is the type of game you have no clue what to do, but it's fun to mess around and see how much you can fuck up before you get fired. It's a simulator so if you get good at this you will actually learn useful real life stuff, I heard they use/used this game as learning tool in Harvard.

Is this a grand strategy game?

>> No.3884950

>>3884937
I don't know how to describe it exactly, but I guess grand strategy would be the correct genre. There are no armies or guns or stuff like that, just business stuff and economics. There are scenarios to play, and then there's the open ended "grand strategy" game where you set up your business and let it rip.

the game has a good tutorial

>>3884937
business sim. you manage a company and can do shit like retail, manufacturing, raw material extraction, farming, stock investment (including taking over competitors), technology R&D

It's not a very hard RTS, so it's a good starting point in the genre.
Besides, if you aren't spoiled by modern RTS controls with unit grouping and multi-selection, it's easier to get into Dune II's spartan UI.

Oh, and Dune by Cryo is worth a try too.
