That's Seiken Densetsu 3.

Having said that, TSoT was still a badasstic game.

I love it, but I'd hesitate to really call it an action game. It's more action focused than Zelda or even Secret of Mana, but it's not like Herzog Zwei or Granada.

Also the PAL version runs at a horrible framerate. I remember threads around here talking about how the game is choppy and controls like shit and never knew what they meant until I tried a playthrough of that version and realized it played like ass by comparison.

This game was so good, never got to play the sequel though.

There's nothing special about Beyond Oasis/Story of Thor's PAL version. It's just slowed down like pretty much every PAL game.

Might be more noticeable because even the NTSC version is only 30 FPS, not 60 FPS. Making the PAL version 25 FPS, not 50 FPS.

One thing the PAL version does have over the NTSC version is that it actually makes use of PAL's extra lines (not many Mega Drive games did, Ecco Tides of Time was another example which did though), so it has slightly best looking visuals.

I haven't tried out many PAL games where I've already played the NA version. I just decided to try it on a whim once and when I realized how bad that version was it made me understand why some people said they thought it was choppy. Never bothered to check the frame rates, but one game definitely runs well and the other doesn't .

>> No.3871343

It IS choppier than some other action games, because even the NTSC version runs at 30 FPS.

Well as pointed out, it's not really an action game. It's a more action focused ARPG than most of it's contemporaries, but it's not Strider or anything.

gameplay is kinda clunky imo.

played through it a few months ago. solid 7/10

>> No.3872560

Played about 4 hours of it so far, it's ok.

I don't like the weapon system as it's very dull and limiting. The dagger has more moves to it and you just stick with it until you come to a boss/mini-boss. Then you just pull out the best weapon you have (and by that point you're drowning in them). Ground enemies are the fucking worst due to certain attacks missing them, don't have that shit in a top down game. I like the Elemental aspect, I wish there was just more to it, perhaps make that more of a main focus of the combat.

The dungeons are good but nowhere near Zelda's- most of them are very short and linear. I was actually surprised Yuzo Koshiro did the music for this because it's kind of bland; There are a few good tracks but most of it is forgettable and it certainly doesn't help there isn't a great variety of them.

It looks amazing though and the characters (especially Ali) are animated very well.

Is the sequel any good?

>Then you just pull out the best weapon you have (and by that point you're drowning in them)

You will get stuff a lot more than you're really required to use it. I played like that at first, but now I use everything when I find it, it's a lot more fun.

The sequel has a different weapon system, so you might like it more. And the puzzles in dungeon get more involved, though it's still not trying to be Zelda really.

I love it. Aside from Guardian Heroes it's my favorite Saturn game, and I like a lot of Saturn games. I also love Beyond Oasis though, so take that into account.

I do use Crossbows a bit though, generally against the big guys with the flails and the spearmen that charge. In what way do you find it more fun to use the stronger swords? I actually think it's more fun to use the dagger simply because there's more to it and if you're quick enough you can combo stuff together, not to mention the spam kick option which is quite satisfying.

Mapping crawling and jumping to the same button made things clunky at times. Some puzzles are just plain annoying. The sequel is kinda awful.

Hi, Australia-kun.

Man is there a translated Jap ROM or a region free patched one? I have a nip mega drive dat won't play any English version of the game on my everdrive. This game has region lock built in the ROM it self. Is there a way to bypass it?
