Any reason why this shit isn't written in asm like the original?

>> No.3800079

>>3800071
All of Chris' games were written in assembly. If you're referring to OpenRCT2 it's because assembly is not portable across architectures and operating systems and there's little reason to write most things in assembly at this point.

>> No.3800083

>>3800079
But, m-muh speed

>> No.3800087

>>3800083
Dude, under assembly it utilizes 100% of cpu time regardless of what actually needs computed. On modern cpus thats just plain awful.

>> No.3800091

>>3800087
Also you can call asm functions from within c++ should something seriously need optimized.

>> No.3800109

>>3800083
Modern compiler chains produce optimized machine code that net the majority of the benefits of hand optimized assembly while still allowing you to write code in a language that's portable. It's also possible to use in-line assembly for hand tuning certain sections of code when necessary. Writing code in assembly is generally discouraged unless the code isn't expected to be ported to other platforms. Usually things like an OS kernel and/or drivers will have a high percentage of assembly code. User applications are usually high level code to simplify development. Chris is a madman so he just wrote it in straight assembly.

>> No.3800131

>>3800109
On top of that, being in C++ means any schmuck can fork the development, rather than only the most hardcore of Compsci autists.

>> No.3800159

>>3800131
Being written in assembly may have helped the OpenTTD and OpenRCT2 projects though oddly enough.

If it were written in a high level programming language the original source code would have just been lost forever. We could deconstruct the binary and make something functionality equivalent to the original but the source code would not be the same. Being written in assembly RCT was basically distributed with its source code mostly intact. It just had to be deconstructed, analyzed, and organized into meaningful parts.

The woodie looks good and the trackitecture is nice but I might suggest adding something to the top of the station so there's not as much white showing. I like the shops on the left side of the plaza but the ones on the right side are fairly flat along the path except for the aqua one on the end which is nice. Also it tickles my autism that the gray/green and cobble/tan paths don't line up at that intersection in the middle of the screen

I've discovered recently that most times the ideal ride is shorter than you'd think it needs to be. While it's fun to recreate The Beast (GOAT)it's really shorter more intricate rides like Gwazi (ctrl-f) that make the best use of the game's unique scoring system.

After seeing some posts here I wanted to see the most fatally intense rollercoaster I could make without hacks was. After trying a handful of coasters, the highest I could get without land manipulation was the Vertical Drop.

So in a sandbox I was able to get it to a maximum height of 575ft and a minimum height of -30.

So a 605 vertical drop right into 4 unbanked tight turns at a speed of 134mph. Then a few short bunny hops to drive your shoulders into the restraints, two vertical loops, and unbanked turns into the station. I also put a brake section at the very end but it doesn't even feel it.

With all of this, the highest I could get it using entirely legal mechanics was 33.14. I'm sure there's a way to drive it higher though. Didn't try any of the Wild Mouse coasters with land manipulation for max support heights. I could see that maybe being higher with it's hairpin turns.

Trinity Islands (of Adventure!) The Bat (orange) was meant to be an economical ride that would provide the steady cash flow needed to build the park's three other coasters. Undertaker (purple rails with grey spine) came last of all, just what i needed to get that last attendance boost to win the objective. We used to have Psyclone at Magic Mountain. Cool layout, based off the famous Coney Island original, but holy fuck, there was a demon living in this ride that wanted to cause pain. The cars didn't just rumble or shake, rather they would slam back and forth violently around even the gentlest curve.

The trains were manufactured by B&M, the only time they did something like that. Too bad the smoothness of their own coaster didn't carry over.

I'm not totally sure. I do know that the loop in the SoB was such a nasty problem because it was so hard to maintain the track type change, and they had to constantly close the ride and readjust especially when the weather was typical Ohio unpredictable bullshit. The new RMC coasters have the same track type, so I guess it's something to to with the vertical loops' geometry.

Good to hear you're having fun :)

Just design them like a schwartkopf. After making a station and adding basic scenery the excitement should be high enough to charge around $5, which is all you should expect from it really. You can use rocket cars to have multiple cars per train too, which adds more momentum to the ride.

>> No.3870946

I posted earlier about how much I'm enjoying this game (>>3869214 )

But i've hit a snag.
Fungus Woods (or Forest), on the campaign "challenging maps".
It's really frustrating me, you have to get 2500 peeps in 4 years, you cannot build anything other than wooden coasters (plus no thrill rides), the park is set to entry fee only, and despite researching shops and stalls for 2 years, i still lacked good money spinners such as souvenirs + t-shirts.

How am i supposed to beat this scenario?
I cant make barely any money, and that means cant regularly advertise the park, and worse still can't build new attractions. All meaning I have barely any chance of hitting 2500 people.

It would be easy if i could charge for rides, or at least have access to decent shops at the start of the campaign.

Any advice? I've failed it 2 times in a row now, and am just tempted to cheat + skip it.

>> No.3870961

>>3870946
I've never been too good with scenarios but with pay-per-entry you want to regularly close the park to force all the guests out and then let them back in for a rush of cash. The coasters are only to attract guests to the park when you open it. Max the umbrella price when it rains and go full jew with stalls.

this guide is for gravity gardens, but the same principal applies just with different ride types

This is only helpful when you don't have Cash Machines, which Fungus Woods does have. I've never understood this practice at all, especially when the objective is to keep guests in the park.

Easily the worst video game I have ever played, no fucking joke.

The graphics and building system aren't bad at all, but everything goes to shit because of EXTREMELY strict limits put on you in sandbox mode.

You can literally only build 2 coasters, 3 track rides, and place 20 FUCKING TREES per park. A meter fills up when you build anything. when it's full, you can't build anymore, and there's no way to change this.

Take the response at face value rather than being incensed that someone would dare be annoyed by your question. I reworked it to 8.6 excitement in 35 seconds for the same price and they comfortable make $11 per rider for about 5 years straight with 5 year total profit of over $100k each. Simply flip and sync the design for increased stats and build it over a path for ease of access and a better pathing layout. When guests ride it and want to again, they are only 4 tiles away from the queue entrance and it doesn't affect the existing park layout.

Thats Battlestar Galatica at Universal Singapore. I guess that would technically make it the sequel to Dueling Dragons.
Pic is of our refurbishments for the summer coming up. New paint for the Mulligan Wheel, Granny Bugs and Raiders!

Any of you know of some good custom "Build 10 coasters" scenarios? Been feeling like doing one of those recently.

I like the station and the interaction with the terrain, but the bumpy lift is weird. Also, the flat curve after the camera looks kinda dull, maybe have a descending curve there instead.

>> No.3908871

>>3903754
>>3908708
This. Terrain conforming sure is great but don't overdo it. I assume that the curve is flat because it's slow, with a straight and therefore slightly higher lift the coaster would have a slightly higher speed and the curve could be changed into a banked descending one.

What are you working on, /vr/ct? Post your current parks and projects. Pic related is a scenario I'm working on right now, thinking of releasing a pack at some point I think with rct1 style difficulty progression.

>>3908871
desu unless you are making a GCI, terrain woodies aren't that great. Launched rides tend to make the sexiest terrain huggers imo

in case you're curious this is how you rmc without resorting to hyper autism famalam. This is probably the best way aesthetically to get the rmc look without custom scenery.

Mostly working on a snow-themed park; wanting the first area to be a carnival area of some sort.

Any idea when that scenario pack could come out?

it'll be a while anon, I've only made one scenario so far and I still need to rework the foliage. I'll release the scenarios as I go so you don't have to wait for the whole thing though

I still have a faint hope that a jump coaster will one day be possible in real life.

I know it sounds unbelievably dangerous, but if were able to show people at Coney Island in the 20s the kind of crazy crap rollercoasters are doing nowadays, they wouldn't believe it either.

I'll probably build a park around this ride. Wanted to see if I can build better rides if I start with a special ride element instead of starting with the station. Worked out better than I expected.

The real issue with such a thing is the balance, mass, etc varies enough from ride to ride to make such a thing unlikely.

1. Open up the tile inspector
2. Select the tile with the piece you want to hide
3. "Insert corrupted element"
4. Place the corrupted element under the piece in question
5. ???
