If it requires Wipeout to be banned for F-Zero to get banned too, then I'm all for it. Somehow this series finds its way into every kind of thread on both /v/ and /vr/ and absolutely derails anything it comes across. That's when you know the game is truly cancer.

My favorite is Wipeout 3, the non-special edition. Best physics, best tracks IMO. And it's still pretty damn good looking because those tracks were designed with proper, consistent aesthetics. The industrial zone of Hi-Fumi, the trees of P-Mar project, the neon rooftops and fireworks of Manor Top... it has tons of style.

My favorite team is Auricom in 3 (I like the forked ships, and I like racing all-rounders) but AG-Systems has the best logos IMO. Let's be friends!

>My favorite is Wipeout 3, the non-special edition.
I'm with this guy, wipeout 3 vanilla ntsc runs smoother, faster and has a more weighted ship feel whilst s.e has retard fly off the track physics and the extra content isn't enough to make up for it imo. That said gareduropa in xl/2097 will always be my individual favorite with the stunning track and dark intense aesthetics. I'm gonna throw out some respect for wipeout 64 to being one of the best controlling crazy fast games of the series, HIGHLY underrated and i also like how everyone is on a level playing field whilst on the ps1 if you don't have a negcon you are basically not going to be getting top tier times.

Vids of actual great play.

I'm a big fan of all the original ones, they all have something unique that makes them good for different reasons. 2097/XL is probably the one I play the most often where it has some really great courses. I love the first one for the soundtrack, that you can pick pilots/teams, reaction pictures when you win lose, little details like reverb on the music when you go through tunnels and cheers when you pass the audience. It also has a lot of crazy variation in the elevation of the levels which I feel like the other ones emphasize a bit less. Always play Qirex or Auricom so I don't know too much about the other teams other than Feisar a shit.

It might just be me going crazy but I was pretty sure Wipeout 3 Special Edition made the ships handle like boats having weird wind up times when steering, but the last time I played it it felt fine with some ships. Maybe the handling stat now determines how sluggish it feels instead of just the turning radius? Anyways now that the physics problem is debunked for me personally, the other issues are still there for Wipeout 3. I swapped out the CD audio tracks with Wipeout 2097 music and it made by the game more exciting to play again, but I still hate the Wipeout 3 boost mechanic. I don't know why they had to fuck with the turbo pickup.

It's the main reason I prefer 2097/XL to 3 but it also adds a layer of depth and strategy to 3 which is pretty cool so I'm torn on the subject.

WipEout and 2097/XL both have a kind of gritty and industrial feel to them, whereas 3 feels a lot more realistic and a bit sterile. I also prefer acid techno to trance so they have that going for them as well. But the smoothness of 3 both in terms of gameplay and graphics is pretty incredible. It hasn't aged a day.

Honestly it doesn't change as much as you might think, you just learn spots to use it in a calculated fashion every lap so it fully depletes as you finish.

It's pretty weird seeing all this praise for vanilla WipEout 3. I was under the impression that WipEou 3: Special Edition was regarded as a better version since it has much more content and a fair bit of polish behind it.

Anyway, I was thinking of getting 3SE, but isn't it PAL exclusive and it runs only in 50fps?

>Anyway, I was thinking of getting 3SE, but isn't it PAL exclusive and it runs only in 50fps?
yes

SE has clearly better physics than vanilla but it's slower. Actually, the Japanese version has the best physics of all Wip3out versions but it lacks game modes, incomprehensibly. Being a Wip3out fan is suffering

>> No.3819895

>>3818297
You're right, actually. I'm re-playing 3 now and the strategy I'm mostly using is to save the turbo for the later laps to get to first place and mostly use it to regain momentum after I've been hit as not to be passed. I guess it does leave less to chance than randomly picking up the turbo from a weapon pad. Personally the most disappointing thing about 3 is the final level. Wipeout and 2097/XL both had memorable last levels that were both difficult and dramatic (Silverstream, Firestar, Spilskinanske) but in Wipeout 3 your efforts are rewarded by getting to race in an airport parking lot.

Wipeout 3 Special Edition runs at 50hz / 25 fps, PAL exclusive.

There's always a debate about WO3 vs 3SE because of the PAL limitation and modified physics that doesn't sit right with some of the fans.

>>3818578
Can you summarize the differences between 3 vs 3SE physics and JP vs the rest?

It's very controversial. I used to be an avid defender of SE physics but going back to vanilla 3 I might like them more. The remade 2097/1 tracks aren't great anyways, they really fucked with the lighting on them.

>> No.3820268

I only use it in Wipeout HD detonator mode because the camera doesn't sway. If the other games don't have motorcycle-like swaying, I would be using it for maximum flying precision.

>>3814981
yeah, I really wish 3SE had original 3's handling the more I play it

but I actually like the extras in 3SE, and the game is just more polished all around in really little ways that make it feel less barebones and spartan like original 3
the classic stages aren't nearly as the original WO3 ones, but I'm glad they're there anyway

XL is still the best of the lot with its handling though.

>>3815509
for something so stylishly advertised, 3's UI is so empty and kind of ugly
Pure on the PSP does what 3 wanted in that regard, but much better

Fuck off does it, it allows leaving the track and skipping half the course tricks which suck as does the lack of weight feel so don't start with that bollocks.

>>3818328
>I was under the impression that WipEou 3: Special Edition was regarded as a better version since it has much more content and a fair bit of polish behind it.

Nah it's just shitter players focus more on content quantity over everything else, both are loved and played so it comes down to do you prefer weight + speed or slower with lower fps and leaving the track to cut corners.

>>3819895
I know i'm right i've been time attacking the game for years. For example in porta kora the speed pads on the gap jump if you use a short burst of boost on jumps for whatever reason you get crazy speed increase to the point of making the following corner hard. Ideally you should be using the same amount of boost n every lap if you have a really clear plan for best total time, it's why top players get every lap consistently within micro seconds of each other.

>>3822353
>How is this possible?
routing, practice and execution. 64 has great physics aswell as far as control is concerned.

The NA release of vanilla 3 has Eliminator Mode available as single-player, while the EU and JP versions have it only as multiplayer. The NA version of 3 also has some minor graphical differences compared to the EU and JP counterparts, indicating it might be an earlier or even a demo version.
