I wish mexican guides were half as cool as those, the best thing we could get here was a "special edition" of a random vidya magazine with 90% re-used content and 10% anything interesting.

I started collecting japanese game guides and art books a few years ago. The difference in content can be pretty staggering at times. Many of them contain unique art and content that goes beyond simply telling you how to beat the game.

Super Mario Kart is a good example. It has this whole manga that plays out as the guide progresses through the tracks.

I already had the SM64 one when I got another in a bundle of other stuff. The second Suikoden II guide was bought at a flea market for $1. It's about $50 on ebay, so I would have been dumb not to buy it. Plus, it was in slightly better shape than my other copy.

hell, I don't even need them, they're just neat sometimes

although I will say my resident evil outbreak 1 and 2 and RE4 strategy guides have gotten their fair share of use

bought an RE2 one not too long ago and it's got some neat art in it

bought one for FFX-2 and it had a letter addressed to a neo-nazi penpal from another neo-nazi living in sweden or something specifically for the fact that it had that letter in it

The custom art for each character is really nice, but the book itself is a little quirky.

Lotta focus on materia combinations and some weird instances of romanized names for things rather than what the english translation uses. Never understood why it was like that. It's also kinda funny that they make it a point of telling you, "yes, we have every enemy skill including chocobuckle." I guess the versus people were really upset at how bad the bradygames guide was at covering that.

Sweet. When I was a kid, half the reason I bought strategy guides was because it was often the best collection of official art for the games that was available. Back before art books were actually a thing.

The FFVII guide from Versus has some art in it that I've never seen anywhere else.

Because the book was written unofficially using an imported copy of FF7 before the North American release. Go through and look at the screenshots. There's never a picture of english text at all.
