Used to live in a flying island, has incredible magical powers, can fly, wears a cape, his weapon is a scythe, has an army of weird creatures that worship him like a god and lives in a dope castle.

It's also speculated that Tata (the kid who found the hero badge) was supposed to be playable at one point, because he apparently has an absurd number of sprites compared to other NPC's.

Not everything from Nippon is anime.

Chrono Trigger art was more "manga" than anime, with softer and more detailed shading. If Trigger was a 3D game, it would look more like Dragon Quest VIII than Dragon Ball Z Budokai 3 and its cel-shaded graphics.
Also, Trigger art was done by Toriyama himself, while the FMV were done by someone imitating Toriyama style. They look way off.
And it seems the guy doesn't even played the game or studied the concept art, he just recreated the characters after a quick look trough it, that's why we have many inconsistencies, like the younger Magus, the taller and older Chrono, the beefed up Glen with short hair and the fucked up Azala.

i always thought that the frame rate for the opening fmv moved too quickly. forgot how awesome watching robo saving a cornered lucca and the x-strike was though.

When it comes down to it, the character design in this game was top notch. Really every character is fucking awesome. I think Lucca is perhaps the weakest one, but that's just because I never really liked her techs or sprite. She has some great parts in the story through, just like everyone else.

Why was Chrono Cross so dark? It's a good game despite all its faults, but the tone of it is pretty creepy compared to Chrono Trigger. I always got eerie vibes off of that one, CC.

Glad those designs for Marle and Ayla were scrapped. They're much sexier in their canonical form. Magus' skull helmet is too creepy and Lucca's helmet defines her character. Robo looks much sleeker in final form. I can't say I prefer any of these prototypes. Anyway, it is interesting to see their evolution.
