Turning dopey, MI1 Guybrush into an egotistical bigshot was genius. You really get a sense that he's a kid way too inexperienced for the kind of fame and wealth he's basically had thrust on him. I'd kinda love to see where Gilbert was going with him in his planned MI3, considering the actual MI3 just reverted him back to dopey MI1 Guybrush.

Gilbert only started the planned MI3 narrative after Cavedog's failure, as a way to drum up attention (since Cavedog's early success has everything to do with TA and Chris Taylor). Before that in interviews he used to say he didn't want to make any more MI and LucasArts could do whatever since it was their franchise after all. So there was no "planned MI3" on his side until years after he'd left LucasArts.

Point and click adventure is a meme genre.
