Speaking of clusterfuck wads from yesteryear. I wonder what the most overused sprites are. The riotgun from Shadow Warrior has to be at the top. As does the uzi.

My favorite was how people would use Cory's rework of the riot gun into a minigun... As a riot gun. Even though you could clearly see bullets feeding into the gun in the sprite.

Still, it's not like people didn't use those guns without good reason. Most of the community-made weapon sprites were total arse for the longest time. I remember a thread where someone had used the SW/IC uzis in his WAD, and someone recommended an alternate set of Tec9 sprites for the sake of not reusing the SW ones... Only they looked like a fucking joke. I can understand not wanting art assets to be overused, but I'll take overused but good-quality assets over novel garbage any day.

Fair enough, though I'd still say you're going overboard on said obsession. Assuming the /vr/ map project pans out, that texture pack will be used between all the maps so that'll just be instanced once. The music is already a fairly small OGG, so I can't really see that needing to be chopped up any further. And of course there's several new monsters that aren't even being used in the map yet.

It's just kinda funny, coming from /a/ and fansubbing/encoding sites where folks will complain for people not encoding to FLAC and the like, and yelling at any naysayers to get bigger harddrives, to IT'S TEN FUCKING MEGABYTES around here. Not meaning that in a negative way, I just find it amusing.

I'm currently making my first Doom and Hexen experiences with the Megapack that was provided here. Maybe you could gather as much from my posts but I'm having a fucking great time. I'm still unfamiliar with the whole terms and mechanics, like how to apply wads and mods and whatnot but it's going smoothly otherwise.

I also tried Strife and played it for a bit. And is it just me or is this basically the prototype for Dishonored? Story and mission wise it's very similar. It even has this weird setting that's a mix of history and technology.

I think a bit of the back of the imp needs to be seen in this sprite's form.

90% of the time, imps will be crawlan at the player from the same level, so Doomguy's eyes will be above Imp's spine and spines. The sprite shows the imp's back as being perfectly flat, implying the imp is at eye-level while crawling. Either the sprite needs fixing, or that's a IOUS(Imp of Unusual Size).

I even took 9000 years in MS paint to demonstrate what I'm talking about!

I just started playing through Doom 2 again. Using Brutal Doom, Brutalized and a fancy hud mod posted last thread. I'm playing on the highest difficulty (fast monsters, +50% damage recieved, but no respawning monsters)
I'm loving it. You die really fast though. I walked into a room and a wall opened up revealing 3 shotgun guys.
They brought me down from 80% health and 100 green armour to about 10% health and no armour, and they only fired once all at the same time.
If even one of them had fired a second time I would've become wall paint.

Well, there's not an specific "deathmatch" WAD that is played online by the Doom community in the way that Facing Worlds and Deck16 are hosted in UT for example, but one of the most well-known mods that are found regularly in Doomseeker are WhoDunIt, Megaman 8bit Deatmatch (a little bit outdated, but people still play it anyway), and the Ghouls series.

To play Doom online you need Zandronum, but you need to set up first the directories in which the IWADS (aka: the original game, Doom 2) are located and where you want to put your PWADS (aka: the mods+extra stuff)

Zandro comes with Doomseeker, in which you can join or set up a server to play online.

The biggest problem I have with AoW2 is also I'm assuming what others would say is its biggest strength--the reliance on a team to actually work together, plan together, and do things together.

Getting 16+ zandrones together in a single server is an accomplishment in and of itself, you guys did great with that. But, even assuming that all of them are going to work together, the skill level is at so much of a disparity that one person isn't going to change much.
I find myself losing whole games through things that I simply can't help because I can't do everything at once.

I used to not really like Shotgun Frenzy because I playing conservatively and upgraded to assault which gave me some really weak ass weapons. Going shotgun and putting an upgrade point into explosive SSG let me actually kill shit so I could buy other neat stuff like those double blade launchers or the rocket launcher so I could actually do decent damage.

I'm sure there are other much better options but it's nice to finally be able to see shit dying for once instead of shooting a demon 8 times with a shotgun and nothing is happening.

The original was on an enhanced Wolfenstein 3D engine (if you can call it that), this one will be running on Unreal Tournament 3 engine (the same one as Duke Nukem Forever).

I guess you could safely say that, Yes, its the same game with updated graphics and some extra content. Just to be straight foward and a little blunt about it.. probably

No shit. George Broussard was a total imbecile. They practically used it as a base to keep making new engines, eventually leading to the steaming pile of shit we got today. Pretty impressive considering it actually looks like unreal 2.
