For FMV games like Dragon's Lair, Space Ace and the like. What is the best way to play them besides LaserDisc players? How is the DVD version?

>> No.3736223

msu1 ports on sd2snes

>> No.3736224

DAPHNE is the emulator. The DVD versions are good too. Due to some licensing crap you have to own the DVD of the Digital Leisure ones to emulate them and I've never gone to the effort of figuring out how to hack it but there are quite a few that are abandoned and free to play.

Do the dvd ones work any dvd player? How does it work on say Xbox or PS2?

Works good. Some of them even specifically mention it on the case.

>> No.3736236

You could buy them on Xbox Live Arcade.

Had these on 3DO. Don't forget Braindead 13.

What about the non-Bluth games? Like Strahl, Road Avenger, Time Gal. Etcetera

The PC-HD versions of Dragon's Lair and Space Ace are excellent

For any of Digital Lesiure's products, you can put the DVD in your drive and use DAPHNE downloader to downlaod framedata etc. and play.

Did they ever add controller support to these? They look great but having to play them on keyboard was kind of dumb.

No controller support. I didn't have a problem using a keyboard. It's true that others might.

That's retarded m8.

They're literally video sequences with branching paths controlled by simple button presses.

Why would you not use an emulator? It's not like accuracy is going to suffer as a result.

There are downsampled ports of Strahl, Road Avengers and Time Gal on 3DO but the DAPHNE versions are much closer to the arcade.

Well okay, but do ALL Laserdisc games work with it? Or just the ones listed on the site?

How many Laserdisc games do you think there are? But no, it only does straight laserdisc games. Games that use computers/consoles to lay sprites on top of FMV are not emulated period. Prepare to spend fucking obscene amounts of money if you want to play them.

I just tell myself this game is only fancy Star Raiders + the less interesting parts of Esh's Aurunmilla and Astron Belt but the fact I've never played it and I can't play it without ~$1,000 makes it seem cooler than it is.

Aren't MSX's region free?

>> No.3737718

>>3737704
Yes. Some games, like most of the Konami stuff, are region-sensitive too and will switch languages if you're running on a Japanese or European MSX.

>> No.3737736

>>3737704
There are 50 and 60Hz MSXs, but as far as I know almost every game won't mind running on either (you'll have more issues with the lack of kanji ROM because some games will display garbage characters, but you can alway make a cartridge with a Kanji ROM on it and a passthrough port). When it comes to MSX2s can switch between 50 and 60Hz software-side (at least philips ones).

>> No.3737889

>>3737704
The laserdisc expansion and the games are Japanese exclusives though and you might as well just get the whole package rather than use your existing MSX.

>> No.3738105

I know there are bunch of torrents out with every laserdisc game bundled with a hacked emulator, one of those MAME/arcade bundles is I got my set from. Despite Daphne's stance on it there really aren't many people that give a shit about laserdisc piracy, just do a little searching.
