Might be, but still, what's wrong with "Super Mario Collection", really? I think it's more descriptive than All-Stars. And renaming Kirby 3 times, really? Who were they trying to confuse? Super Street Fighter II Turbo is way to easy to mix up with the old Turbo, just adding to already confusing SF2 edition titles.

My most hated example is Darius Force, because AFAIK most if not all previous games were called Darius in US, including the arcade game and Darius Twin on SNES. They had an established brand, what could possibly go wrong? Copyright issues? But then they go with Super Nova, the most generic name ever?…

I think the Game Boy Darius and the Genesis/Master System ports of Darius II were renamed "Sagaia". Which is kinda dumb but hey, it's a cool sounding word.

Gradius ---- Nemesis

And then Nemesis was the name of the GB Gradius game, and the Nemesis moniker seems to have some presence even in the Japanese MSX Gradius releases.

That's correct. However, the GB version was called Sagaia in Japan too. Not Genesis/Master System version though, but at least they didn't create a random new word.

Reminds me of Gradius/Nemesis name changes. It always weirds me out when I see Vic Viper, but the title reads "Nemesis".

Maybe, but it'd be hard to mistake it really. "Street Fighter II" brand was recognized by everyone anyway, so what would they think, that it was SFVIII?… Adding a new "Turbo" entry was just more confusing.

"X" was pretty memorable and bold IMO. The artwork also lost its point, as no one got what "X" meant. And of course, in SFA3 (or more like SFZ3), most would also miss on the meaning of X-ism—that it was meant to be a "Super Turbo mode".

Super Street Fighter IIX would be Super Street Fighter 10 - 2. Not that I think Capcom's U.S. marketing department were smart enough to realized that, considering they didn't even know what a prime mark was. Seriously, not calling the U.S. version of Street Fighter II Dash into Street Fighter II Prime was missed opportunity.
