You can kill kids in og Deus Ex. It's really not any different from any other character model dying and you rarely get anything out from it. It's still great to have that possibility from the immersion point of view, it wouldn't make any sense to have a shootout on the street and have kids walk through bullets like they're Jesus.

I still remember my first time playing DX:

Not really. Violence is inherent in almost all games. Nudity isn't, especially made nudity. If there is kids and you've got a gun, and you can kill everything else, it's just weird if you can't kill children (or actively infuriating, if the children can attack you or say snarky cunty lines).
