It's because when you ask Trent Reznor to make a soundtrack for an action game, you expect NIN level stuff, but he went with a generic ambient OST.
And there's some people that'll suck the ambient OST's dick, but honestly, it's some of the most generic shit I've heard. Aubrey Hodges handled ambient music far better, and gave it a unique sound.
Trent really just dropped the ball big-time and that's all there is to it.
That said, I love Trent Reznor's early NIN work, and I'd love to hear what he'd do if he were specifically asked to create a heavy soundtrack for the game.

Same reason as Doom still looks stylish despite being technologically inferior.

Visual Design is a thing many modern developers do not understand. You can not just cramp in HD textures, high-poly models and crapton of effects and expect it all to look good.

Out of all old games IMO, Unreal/UT is best in terms of Visual Design. The best stuff in further iterations of UT are remakes of the original content that has been given a facelift without conceptual change.

Total conversion. So far all the monsters are in, though not 100% finished. Object/environment sounds are done and 20 new music tracks (thanks to term and hexenmapper, respectively)... 900 sprites, 450 textures+flats... 4 maps pretty much done, plus this one... That's because it became full on business for the organizers now.

PCF is one of the worse charities in terms of how much salaries they pay to their CEOs and to "volunteers" like the GDQ staff. They also spend most of the money that does go to charity work to printing "cancer awareness" posters, and they only do this in the US. At AGDQ they always keep saying "remember all the money goes to charity", and always forget to mention how the charity is a bunch of shit and only operates in the US, when in reality a lot of the money comes back to GDQ staff from the charity, and the "charity" pays massive salaries to their own top staff and even the research money they hand out is to the friends of the PCF CEOs.

AGDQ makes a shitload of money for PCF, and PCF gives the most payouts to AGDQ staff, so that's why they've been partnered with eachother for years even though PCF is total dogshit as a charity. And since AGDQ is business, they've been making it at sterile as possible to not compromise the flow of money into their wallets.

Anyway, off from the topic of AGDQ.

I've bounced around idea of some sort of mapping-tennis to make a single huge map. For example, get bunch of people, just make start and exit points. First person has one day to do mapping, after which it gets thrown to next person, who has day as well, etc. Repeat until it loops back, run until map is cool.

I think it would probably collapse gloriously.

All the shit about PCF and their finances is publicly available information. The only thing that isn't raw black and white facts is the exact amount of money Mike and other staff and who else get paid, because GDQ LLC has refused to disclose that, but people have made calculations about how much of PCF's budget cited for that kind of expenses it is, and it has to be a lot of money.

PCF is ranked in shit tier in terms of how much expenses go to CEO salaries and other non-charity expenses, again, all their budget information is public and can be looked up by anyone. And the company set up for GDQ refusing to tell anything about their finances despite massive suspicions just tells you even more of how shady it is.

There's shit like anonymous donators dropping huge cash money to meet donation incentives or to generate hype, which is almost guaranteed done by the staff getting the money from PCF, because a part of the donation money will be circulated back to them from PCF.

Based on what? Where does this happen outside of throwback easter eggs? Every element of the story besides some old designs slipped into fluff art can be taken as completely new and everyone went into the game reading way too much into the lore because the hell dialog leaks had all the spergs saying it was the original doomguy before the game even came out, just based on a few lines about the character being the hell boogeyman. It seems like it's the original Doomguy because you went into the game looking for every little detail that might link the two, so now instead of easter eggs being easter eggs they're definitive evidence that there's some retarded multiverse plot going on instead of another reboot. Confirmation bias.

They're putting cheap throwbacks like depictions of the old doomguy on lore and items from the earlier games being used as props because it's the easiest thing they can do to point to and go "Hey, check it out, we care about the old fans of the series look at this rad shit lmao he's the old playersprite in this one!!"

The Doomslayer's backstory is purposefully vague as fuck as to where he comes from and that's the only "Cue" you're given outside of shit that would be considered a cheeky easter egg in any other game, including Doom 3. If Doom 3's release was surrounded by the same bunch of turbonerds grasping at every straw possible to place the original Doomguy in the storyline then we'd have this same idiotic multiverse theory going on back in 2004 desperately trying to explain that actually the Doom 3 guy isn't REALLY a reboot of the same character because the regular Doomguy existed in the lore and actually that thing on the tablet wasn't just an Easter egg! You're going into a *REBOOT*, the kind of media most likely to contain references and similarities to the original, and picking out every single similarity to the original as definitive proof of your claim when every single one of them can be explained as the game being a reboot and recycling old lore. That's confirmation bias.
